How to solve the Unidentified Ruins puzzle in Latotian's Passage

Players who have found their way to the Latotian's Passage system in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader may have stumbled upon the Unidentified Ruins POI in the local dry world. Here you can open a locked chest by bouncing a beam of light off the nearby pillars and creating one of the patterns etched into the ground, but before you can do so you must activate the central pillar by passing a Warp Lore check, or by collecting an item from a nearby chest. If you want to get your hands on the loot hidden in this Rogue Trader puzzle, here's what you need to do.

Your goal here is to recreate one of the two symbols on the ground by bouncing a beam of light from the central pillar to all the other pillars in the unidentified ruins. During my first visit here, I immediately tried to make the star pattern, which you can replicate by interacting with the pillars in the following order:

  1. Middle top left

  2. Top left to bottom right

  3. Lower right to lower left

  4. Bottom left to top right

  5. Top right to center

For the above pattern to work, aim the camera so that the Open Maw interactable object is at the top of the screen.

Once all beams are aligned, interact with Open Maw to get one Ancient power swordwhich is a slightly better version of most basic Force Swords. It works best in the hands of a melee-focused Psyker like Heinrix or your own Rogue Traderprovided they are a Psyker themselves. Normal warriors like Abelard won't be able to get much value from Force Swords because they can't build up Psy Rating, which Force Swords need to get bonus damage.

Completing the star pattern can summon a Screamer of Tzeentch as well as two Pink Horrors. Be prepared.

If you check the ruins along the side road, you'll find a Cracked Xenochest near some rubble. Take it, then insert it into the Open Maw. After that, orient the beams according to the pattern above by interacting with the columns in this order:

  1. Middle top right

  2. Top right to bottom right

  3. Lower right to lower left

  4. Bottom left to top left

  5. Top left to center

Go back to Open Maw and you will be able to open the Cracked Xenochest. Inside you'll find two items:

  • Foulsight Veil (Aeldari helmet): +15 Perception, -5 Willpower

  • Chains of Domination: When the wearer kills an enemy, they gain +5 Willpower until the end of combat

Because Foulsight Veil cannot be equipped by human companions, which is good because it is perfect for Yrliet. The +15 Perception bonus will further reduce the enemy's chances of dodging her attacks, making Foulsight Veil an excellent helmet for sniper builds. Rogue Trader.

Meanwhile, The Chains of Domination is good for Psykers who use Willpower scaling spells, like Psychic Shriek. Some buffs also get stronger depending on how high your Willpower bonus is, so keep an eye out for them when building your characters. This is a good option for offensive Psykers if you didn't get the Daemon Tool from the Upperway Motive Force puzzle on Rykad Minoris early in the game.
