Warzone is temporarily removing Rebirth Island

Important takeaways

  • Call of Duty: Warzone is temporarily removing Rebirth Island from the game.
  • The popular Resurgence map returned on November 18, but was removed just hours later.
  • In a new statement, Call of Duty says Rebirth Island was removed while the team investigates “map-specific issues.”

Call of Duty: Warzone Developer Raven Software has temporarily removed Rebirth Island, a fan-favorite resurgence map, from the game's rotation just hours after it made its triumphant return. While Black Ops 6 and War zone Season 1 brought a new Resurgence map known as Area 99, fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Rebirth Island, only for it to be removed within hours.

As the end of Modern Warfare 3 approached, Raven Software made some controversial changes to the War zones playlists to prepare for the launch of Black Ops 6. With Season 1 officially kicking off on November 14th, fans were eager to check out all the new playlists and, most importantly, the game's all-new Resurgence map, Area 99. This quick little map was inspired by the popular multiplayer map, Nuketown. But with a brand new omni-motion system and a plethora of Black Ops 6 weapon in the players' arsenal, fans were eager to see Rebirth Island make a return.

Warzone removes Rebirth Island just hours after its return

Less than a week after the launch of Season 1, Rebirth Island returned to War zone on November 18 with a new playlist update. However, just a few hours later, developer Raven Software confirmed that it would be temporarily removing the map from rotation due to “map-specific issues”. Over to the official Call of Duty Updating the Twitter account, the studio said, “We have removed Rebirth Island from the playlist while we investigate map-specific issues.” They then noted that all other maps and modes will remain unaffected by the issue, with more updates coming when the studio is ready.

As expected, the removal of Rebirth Island got fans excited. In response to the post, Twitter user Obey Oster said, “This is the worst launch ever War zone ever,” while Wavys said, “it's funny you guys can't even get it right for a map that's been around for almost four years, re-released now for the third time.” Unfortunately, this isn't the only problem that has plagued the popular Battle Royale since the launch of Season 1. On November 15, Raven Software confirmed that it was investigating some serious audio issues in War zone after fans complained they couldn't hear enemy footsteps, while others experienced muffled sound.

It's currently unclear how long it will be before Rebirth Island returns, meaning fans will have to play either War zones new Area 99 Resurgence map or the large-scale battle royale map, Urzikstan, in the meantime. The latter also led to disappointment earlier this month, as Activision confirmed shortly before the launch of Season 1 that the map would be a version from the early seasons of Modern Warfare 3. This meant no accessible bunkers, no Superstore point of interest and an intact power plant.
