Secret Easter eggs and references in Mario Kart World you might have missed

The gigantic spreading world is to your racing fingertips in Mario Kart World (MKW). This is the most ambitious title in the series yet, which gives more chaos and more fun than ever before. By being under development since 2017, this title Nintendo's classic secret loving charm is poured through every inch of its open world.

Rank every Mario map game based on how realistic driving feels

The real road is as chaotic as a racetrack in Mario Kart.

While competing by everything, you will easily miss some of the smaller details that the developers hid in the fun, detailed world. By taking the slow road in Free Roam for hours you can find some of the game's most hidden details and Easter eggs.

Sarasaland

Daisy's Empire Rules

MKW's environments range from lava countries to tall trees that all feel clearly Mario, with many known places spread over. However, a place is very different in the design, and it is the desert area on the left of the map, which includes Desert Hills and Shy Guy Bazaar.

Unlike other items where desert tracks are a more generic desert area based on the unnamed deserters from the modern platform players, this is very clearly Sarasaland from Super Mario Land. Daisy is the ruler in Sarasaland and at the peak of having a palace in this area it is also filled with enemies that have only appeared in Sarasaland, such as Batadon and Tokotoko, and obviously suggests that it is Sarasaland.

NPC character

Here for a reason

MKW has one of the strangest playing plans in any Mario Kart game with some generic fun choices, such as Para-Biddybud and Cow from Mooo-Moo Meadows. The specific characters they chose when these NPC drivers seem to be quite random at first, but in fact almost everyone seemed as background elements in some form throughout the series, and each represents another era and games in the Mario series.

We are all struggling to unlock all these characters because everything relies on the Kamek object turning you into them, which can sometimes feel like a complete random chance. But there are actually canceled transformations for each place and track in the game, which is a super nice detail for those who want to unlock their favorites quickly.

If you are struggling to unlock a specific character, take a run in Free Roam to see if you can see them in any of the tracks as background signs.

Outfit references

Dressed in details

The role of classic Mario characters has never looked more fashionable with a wide range of lockable clothing in MKW. While some of these return from the Mario Kart Tour, some new styles are even referring to other games in the Mario series.

Are they really knockout? We have ranked every knockout tour in Mario Kart World

Stay outside the four lower with Mario Kart World's Knockout Tours.

For example, Mario and Luigis Pro Racer clothing are a direct reference to their first racing look in the Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally, which precedes the Mario Kart series. At the same time, Super Mario RPG fans finally get some love with Yoshi's cyclist costume which is not so subtle reference to Boshi, and his swimwear looks identical from Mario from Super Mario Odyssey.

Kazumi Totaka's song

A secret hidden in many Nintendo titles

Yoshi on the character swallow screen that buzzes Totaka's song in Mario Kart World.

One of the series' most iconic audio designers is the veteran who has worked for Nintendo since the 90s, Kazumi Totaka. In every title that Totaka has worked with, he has put in a fun secret song called Totaka's song, usually hidden somewhere in the game, and of course Mario Kart is no different.

In the previous post, Mario Kart 8, this melody could be found by humming by any spectator Yoshis if you got close enough to them. In MKW, Yoshi will once again bumble this wonderful little secret melody, but this time it is front and mine. If you float over any Yoshi or his costumes on the Character Select screen long enough, you will hear the wonderful melody.

Track references

This road feels familiar …

Mario Kart would not be something but the fun creative tracks to compete over and with them all connected in a giant world in MKW they are better than ever. While many retro tracks have returned in the game's Grand Prix, more can actually be found through the new tracks by exploring in Free Roam.

Many parts of the tracks have parts of tracks from previous titles. For example, in the introduction of Bowser's castle, the first corner is almost identical to the Mario Kart 8 version of the track, and Wario Stadium has parts of Waluigi Stadium spread over. Some Super Mario Kart tracks are even shown as secret tracks around the map, for example with Ghost Valley being close to Boo Cinema and Koopa Beach near Koopa Troopa Beach.

The outfit icon poses

Hi, we've seen that bag before!

Despite how poorly organized the character selection menu is, there are many details that Nintendo puts into this. While almost every outfit has been purchased fresh for MKW from the nearest coconut gallery, these clothes can see strange acquaintances when they look at their icons. This is because almost everyone refers to a previous rendering of that character.

Family

Is Mario Kart World better than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

Is Mario Kart World a knockout, or is Mario Kart 8 Delux beeping it to the finish line?

Take, for example, Mario in her Pro Racer outfit makes exactly the same pose as the render that his Super Mario series Amiibo is based on is in, and the same goes for Peach's Farmer Outfit. This is a small detail that makes the costumes feel so much more familiar, even though this is the first in the Mario Kart history for some characters shown in alternative clothing.

5

Vehicles and water form

Expired ride

While vehicle adjustment was cut from the series in MKW, we got lots of creatively designed maps and bikes to drive around every corner of the world. Some of these maps have stylish references baked in their design, such as Robhog as a Rob toy from NES or the hyperpipe using elements from the original Mario Bros. as pipes and pow blocks.

Each vehicle has a cool detail when they enter any waterboat section, because instead of getting a generic propell as in previous items, they get the familiar appearance jet ski exhaust. These are based on a pipe from Super Mario Sunshine, and this is such a sweet detail. While Professor E. Gadd may not have been invited to compete, he is clearly behind the scenes and makes all the vehicles in the game.

4

Interact with NPC driver

Friendly colleagues

A bunch of NPC cars peeled in a traffic jam caused by the player in Mario Kart World.

Free Roam has become one of our favorite ways to relax after a stressful day, and with such a massive world that you can drive everywhere there are many hidden secrets. What breathes the most life in this world is NPC driver who drives around. These law -abiding road lovers have actually set roads that they will drive to, and best of all they will even react to you.

If you wave to a driver or Honk, they will do it back with things like buses that have everyone on board, giving you a sweet smile and wave. On the other hand, if you want to cause some chaos on the roads, you can stop your map death in its track and cause a massive traffic jam if drivers do not have the chance to drive around you.

3

Nintendo references

Welcome to Mario Kart!

Nintendo as a company is very fond of its own history, and nowhere shows it more than their flagship series, Mario. From small details like the lockable stickers with references to Game & Watch to a sign with Sprites from the original Super Mario Kart, there is no shortage of love for the company and the series earlier in MKW.

Here are the best Nintendo characters that have not appeared in the Mario Kart games yet.

DK Spaceport is a track that is filled with Nintendo references, and it really shows how much passion went into MKW's development. From Donkey Kong Arcade Girder Level Design, to Robo DK with a Donkey Kong Game & Watch system on the back, this is a track to explore every little detail in Free Roam.

2

Rainbow road

A celebration of the series

Going into MKW, one of the few things that was completely secret was the new iteration of Rainbow Road, and for good reasons. This track is always something special, but in MKW it almost takes you to tears with how grandiose and incredible it is. From the wonderful images to the climate emotional music, this is no one else.

One thing that makes this Rainbow Road even more special is the fact that it celebrates the history of the series by referring to sections from almost every rainbow road. From landing on a planet that in Mario Kart 7 to long winding paths like Mario Kart Wii, every stretch of the track is full of love for the series, and in combination with music references, it makes a perfect celebration of how far the series has arrived.
