If you were like me and were hoping that rumors of a revised DualSense, AKA DualSense V3, for the PlayStation 5 would bring a much-needed, and frankly, much-requested removable battery, then we're sorry to dash your hopes because it looks like that's not the case.
In a new video from Austin Evans, the same YouTuber who reported that the revised PlayStation 5 Slim model not only has a smaller SSD but cheaper materials, all for the same price, he bought the new PlayStation 5 Pro SKU, which has the rumored DualSense V3 included, only to find out that not much is happening.
The new model has some extra plastic support on the inside, but lacks an internal microphone, but that probably won't affect things too much. It also has another battery, but the second battery isn't the type you can easily swap out to charge or replace.
In other words, all of these rumors were false, or potentially a case of mistranslation or misunderstanding, given that there is a “new” battery, and like other DualSense batteries, it can technically be replaced, but so can other batteries.
What fans, including this one, were really hoping for was a more streamlined design that could let you charge your battery without having to abandon the entire controller, or let you replace the battery with ease on a controller that has since been degraded. Oh well.
Speaking of the PS5 Pro, it's a bit of an improvement
In Evan's video, it is noted that this new SKU for the Pro actually weighs less than the original model by about 87 grams. It retains the same glossy finish that the new Slim models have since replaced with matte, and has new fans inside. The new fans help dampen the noise generated by the console.
It uses less power and runs slightly cooler, although there are no actual noticeable differences when it comes to how it runs games. That is, the new PS5 Pro is better, but you probably wouldn't know any of these improvements were there either.
