Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Will Have Parkour

After back-to-back Black Ops releases, something Call of Duty promised it would never do again, the long-running first-person shooter series returns to… Modern Warfare. After a reboot of the original trilogy that kick-started it all, we're finally at Modern Warfare 4.

So far, we've had a sprinkling of details on the game's campaign, but very little on multiplayer, arguably Call of Duty's biggest draw.

Unlike Black Ops 7, Modern Warfare 4's campaign can be played offline

It seems Activision has learned from how Black Ops 7 was received.

For starters, Infinity Ward won't say one way or the other whether Modern Warfare 4 will have Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) but it will share details after it crunches the data from Black Ops 7.

There won't be stupid skins in MW4 either, although we've heard that before.

“No Lady Gaga. No Omni-Man. No Teletubbies. No Spongebob,” the community team wrote online. “Keep the receipts.”

No word on AI either, something that has plagued recent Call of Duty releases.

Now we have a brief look at the multiplayer action, and if you were hoping for a traditional boots-on-the-ground experience, you might want to temper your expectations now.

Hardcore Parkour

In a new edition of its “From the Ward” vidoc series, Infinity Ward pulled back some of the curtain on multiplayer movement, which it promises will be fluid.

Over the short video clips shown, the player can easily roll over vehicles, climb poles, slide and jump from roof to roof without any problems.

Sure, it's not exactly all movement. But it's not strictly tactical either.

“3 games back to back of this 'movement' slop,” one user wrote on Reddit. “Would it really kill them to have something even a little more restrictive? Or at least lock it behind benefits?”

Granted, this is all still a work in progress, and the combined runtime of the clips is roughly less than 10 seconds. As one user pointed out, even a small reduction in sprint speed should make things feel a little more realistic.

On the other hand, if you can still jump over cars with ease or from roof to roof, there wasn't much realism to begin with, we think. Given how poorly received Black Ops 7 was as a whole, there's a lot riding on Modern Warfare 4, which means everything will be dissected.
