Borderlands 4's DLC 2 Vault Hunter may have leaked

Borderlands 4 fans have discovered what could be the next DLC Vault Hunter referenced in data mined dialogue. This leak comes soon after Borderlands 4 launched its first story DLC pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, along with its first post-launch Vault Hunter, C4SH. While developer Gearbox Software has confirmed that a second DLC, along with another new playable Vault Hunter, will be released, no further details about this expansion have been shared.

The most recent entry in the Borderlands the series has received some criticism for its post-launch support. Many fans were unhappy with the price of Borderlands 4's Story Pack 1 DLC, takes issue with at least 2-3 hours of content for the $30 price tag. Where this first Story Pack excels is in its new Vault Hunter, C4SH, making any future playable characters an exciting proposition for Borderlands 4 fans.

Borderlands Mobile's beta is coming to an end soon, and when it returns it would be great to see it address some of its pain points.

Borderlands 4 fans think they've found DLC 2's Vault Hunter in the New Datamine

Reddit user jakobsestate shared his findings from a data mine of Borderlands 4s subtitles they conducted and found what could be a reference to the next DLC Vault Hunter in unused dialogue. The name “Loveless” appears several times throughout the datamined subtitles, potentially indicating that this is the name of the Vault Hunter coming in DLC 2. It is unclear who, or what, this Loveless is, especially since they refer to themselves as “we”, but the fact that the name appears in so many dialogue options supports the theory that they are slated to be Vault Hunters.

In the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC, the character Mancubus can make several different comments about the game's Vault Hunters, including a line of dialogue that says, “it seems you've suffered an infinite recursion, uh, Mistress Loveless.” While this was first thought to be aimed at Borderlands 4s Vex, these newly discovered lines of dialogue suggest that the “loveless” Mancubus is referring to here is an entirely different character. Since this dialogue appears alongside other jokes aimed at the game's Vault Hunters, it's easy to see how this could be a teaser for a future playable character.

To further fuel this theory, user jakobsestate found the name Loveless in unused dialogue along with other variants for the rest of the Vault Hunters. In the image posted on Reddit, the line “Yes! This is Loveless — We are a Vault Hunter” can be found next to a variant of the same dialogue for the existing Vault Hunter Rafa, which reads “Yes! This is Rafa. I'm a Vault Hunter.” What's more, another line of dialogue was discovered, which reads “We're loveless. I'm looking for a woman named Ellie.” Although this line mistakenly mixes pronouns, it further cements the idea that Loveless is the name of a playable character.

Comments on user jakobset's post are already theorizing who this mysterious Loveless might be and how they might work as Vault Hunters. Some users note the character's use of the pronoun “we” when referring to themselves, suggesting it may be some form of hivemind, while others theorize that Loveless may even be an Eridian Vault Hunter. Another possibility is that the Loveless use the royal we to refer to themselves as a kind of status symbol, meaning they could be a more posh Vault Hunter like Borderlands: The Pre-SequeI am Aurelia Hammerlock. But until the next one Borderlands 4 The DLC pack is officially revealed, this is all just fan speculation.
