The sequel to 2015's narrative horror game Until Dawn was announced during tonight's PlayStation State of Play. The project is led by Firesprite Games, a first-party PlayStation studio best known for Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
The trailer depicts a group of ghost hunters who seem to be living large on a sparsely populated island. Predictably, their good times are soon interrupted by an individual with murderous intent.
The official PlayStation synopsis reads as follows: “Our cast this time is a crew of ghost hunters, the faces behind the wildly popular paranormal channel, Dead True.. Only, well… they've never actually seen anything supernatural. The horrors they're known for are, shall we say, a little staged. But all that changes when, for the first time, they begin to experience and terrorize the living. reputation of surviving until dawn.”
As with the original – developed by Supermassive Games – a cast of actors has been cast to give the characters their likenesses and voices. The cast includes, among others, Neil Newbon (Baldur's Gate 3) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things).

If the Until Dawn movie isn't about Until Dawn, then what is?
Is this just a regular old horror movie then?
In terms of continuity, the psychologist from the original game (portrayed by Peter Stormare) appears briefly at the end of the trailer, suggesting that the sequel takes place in the same universe as the Wendigo-infested first game.
The final line of the trailer suggests, “All may live, all may die,” which is always a welcome reassurance.
Until Dawn 2 is announced at State Of Play
The Until Dawn brand was potentially damaged by the release of the critically panned film adaptation earlier this year, but it's unlikely to hurt the appetite of fans of the genre, who have been spoiled for choice in recent years.
The original game's developer, Supermassive, recently released The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020, which launched to mixed reviews, something that has become typical of the series.
Until Dawn 2 will be released sometime next year.
