6 Anime That Rival Classroom of the Elite

The classroom of the elite is another returning anime in the spring 2026 season, along with hits such as Dr. Stone and Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kunalthough these three familiar animes cannot be easily compared to each other. The classroom of the elite is a cerebral tale of scheming high school students and the jungle-like education system that rules their lives, while Iruma-kun is cartoon isekai and Dr. Stone is edutainment in the future stone age. Anime that competes The classroom of the elite available elsewhere.

Lots of cool anime competing with The classroom of the elite in its own arena, offering either battles of wits, intense school-based stories, or both. Some of these anime have a cool, smart guy to rival Kiyotaka Ayanokoji or a genius girl in the vein of Suzune Horikita, and god knows the anime fandom loves a clueless genius or two. Romance, drama, comedy and even the supernatural can find their way into these anime, making them compete with The classroom of the elite in true style.

Oshi no Ko is about planning young adults

Teenagers often end up being the smartest people in the room, or at least the most cunning, when it comes to anime series like The classroom of the elite and the twisted idol anime Oshi no Ko. Cold, aloof teenage boys and girls are not to be underestimated, as the likes of Kiyotaka Ayanokoji and Aqua Hoshino are two steps ahead of everyone else, classmates or adults. And in Aqua's case i Oshi no Koa number of people may be injured because of it.

Oshi no Ko even involves some “school life” shenanigans, with Aqua, Ruby, and Kana Arima carefully plotting their path to success for stardom, revenge, or both. Revenge isn't often in the playbook for Kiyotaka's class, but Kiyotaka would respect Hoshinos and Kana for their wits and intrigue.

Death Note's Dark Antihero is even smarter than Kiyotaka

The light is also much more twisted

Any discussion of high IQ anime will not fail to include the famous one Death Note anime as a true 21st century classic that has fans buzzing about its plot twists to this day. Fans might call Light Yagami a much darker Kiyotaka, because while they are cool tricksters who can outwit anyone around them, it is Light who wades into the darkness without realizing his hypocrisy.

The anime series' most imperfect conclusions

7 Anime Series With The Most Imperfect Conclusions

These anime series are sensational, but their endings leave a lot to be desired.

Kiyotaka is just maneuvering through a murderous academic environment on the small island, while Light is ready to transform the entire world with one written name after another. Like Kiyotaka, Light tends to see humans as useful allies, except that Light is much more likely to exploit or sacrifice them. The supernatural edge and themes of blurred morality are what deliver Death Note some serious kick. It's a lot more than “smart kids in high school”, but there's no doubt that Light would dominate Kiyotaka's school as well.

The school life genre is largely missing from the exciting seinen anime Monsterbut an anime doesn't need homeroom or study hall to become a worthy rival to The classroom of the elite. Fans just want another cerebral anime with ominous characters and tense suspense to rival Kiyotaka's academic adventures, and Monster is the answer. This anime also feels more adult, and not just because of the characters' ages.

Monster stands proudly among the anime greats as a breathtakingly dark drama and an all-too-human horror tale about a chilling man who was branded a veritable monster in human skin. Johan Liebert surpasses all antagonists in The classroom of the elite as he outwits his pursuers and haunts viewers with his cold-blooded lines about the value, or lack thereof, of human life.

A quiet voice portrays the drama of bullying in high school

There is definitely some nasty bullying going on The classroom of the eliteand not “stuff the geek in his cupboard” type. The most unpleasant students will beat or even kidnap each other, which increases the tension more than a little. In the meantime, A quiet voice dominated by the bullying narrative, but in a more thoughtful and less theatrical way.

A quiet voice ranks among the best anime films ever made, offering viewers a heartwarming but often sad tale of bullying, redemption, consequences and forgiveness. This anime borrows some of the drama from The classroom of the elite while making it less of a competition and more of a personal quest to find your true self.

If anyone is looking for a much more inspiring and often silly cousin to The classroom of the elite, Kaguya-Sama: Love is War is exactly what the fandom needs. The charming romantic comedy is refreshing for anyone who has seen the dark mind games in The classroom of the elitebut the tonal contrast is not the only factor at play here. The romantic battles of sanity and character development all benefit from expert writing thanks to writer Aka Akasaka, the mastermind behind Oshi no Ko.

5 Classic Isekai that came out long before Re:Zero

Re:Zero might be all the rage right now, but these Isekai came out way before that.

It doesn't take long for any viewer to see how Kaguya-Sama ended up being one of the best anime of the last few years, whether it tries to compete with or not The classroom of the elite. This is the peak rom-com that does everything right to tease the fans with the brewing love story and the meaningful character moments. Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are versions of Kiyotaka and Suzune that viewers can actually root for for sympathetic reasons, and that's what makes Kaguya-Sama such a worthy watch. Here the brain and the heart are finally equal.

Kakegurui is the Elite's classroom with a roulette wheel

Brains Beat Brawn in Anime Like Kakegurui and Classroom of the Elite

Cake Guru is another “smart but brutal high school student” anime, one that trades homework for games in the flashiest way possible. Hyakkou Academy gives its students lessons in calculated risk and reading people through gambling, to the point that no one ever sees the students doing “normal” homework. It feels almost too weird to work, even for anime, but it sure makes for some cool gameplay scenes that rival anything found in Molly's game or Casino.

Yumeko Jabami the heroine, is type like Kiyotaka as a brilliant teenager who refuses to let anyone get over her, but the similarities end there. While Kiyotaka is a bluffer who politely keeps everyone at arm's length, Yumeko strengthens her sanity with the raw pleasure of playing. She is paradoxically calculating and primitive in her mindset, caring about the stakes of gambling above any cheating or alliances. That makes her a thematic rebel on the traditionalist Hyakkou, which is why anime fans love her — and maybe fear her a little, too.
