ZA officially has three new threats

Pokemon Legends: ZA is in its third week of life since launch, and many players are already waiting for the confirmed Mega Dimension DLC's release to spice it up with new content and even more Mega Evolutions. Based on the leaks, Pokemon Legends: ZAs DLC will feature 19 new Mega Evolutions, though other details about the story and new content remain a mystery. While the DLC may still be a couple of months away, as no official release date is available yet, fans don't really have to wait for new content, as the upcoming Season 2 on November 5th is already confirmed to shake things up.

Season 1 of Pokemon Legends: ZA is almost over and ends on November 4th at 9:59 PM PST. It introduced Mega Greninja and Greninjite as a reward for reaching Rank K in online battles, and Season 2 is about to do something similar with Delphox. But not only that, as two more “new” Pokémon will be available with Season 2. The new threats are:

  • Mega Delphox, obtained after reaching Rank S in Season 2 by claiming Delphoxite as a reward.

  • Xerneas, who will no longer be banned from ranked battles and will have no team building restrictions.

  • Yveltal, who will no longer be banned from ranked battles and will have no team building restrictions.

This means that with Season 2, all players will be able to use Mega Delphox, Xerneas and Yveltal in online battles, which will dramatically change the game's competitive landscape. By comparison, it usually takes much longer for new generations of Pokémon game to allow players to use legendary Pokemon, while Xerneas and Yveltal will become available for battle just three weeks after launch.

Pokemon Legends: ZA's “new” legendary Pokemon are about to dominate online battles

Even if Pokemon Legends: ZA's Xerneas and Yveltal don't have a new Mega Evolution, and while they're also missing their iconic aura abilities, they're still very powerful Pokémon with some of the best stats in the game, as well as signature moves. Xerneas has Geomancy, which increases Sp. Atk, Sp. Def and movement speed, while Yveltal has Oblivion Wing, which deals damage as a flying move and also restores Yveltal's HP.

These can be incredible assets in Pokemon Legends: ZAs ranked battles, as movement speed helps Pokemon reposition faster to attack the opponent, stat boosts can make a big difference, and self-healing can make it easier to survive long enough to get KOs. Both Pokemon also have incredible attack stats, with high HP and defense, meaning items like Expert Belt and Assault Vest can be optimal choices for them.

The Assault Vest in Pokemon Legends: ZA can be obtained via a side quest or at Racine Construction after the game. Giving it to Xerneas means it can't use its Geomancy move, since it's a status move.

Pokemon Legends: ZA's Mega Delphox will also be a very powerful choice, as it will be among the animals with the highest Sp. Atk in game after Mega Zygarde, which is useless in online battles. With many Ice type Pokemon like Glaceon, Avalugg, Vanilluxe and even Froslass being used in competitive battles due to the dominance of Dragon and Ground types, Delphox can easily take care of them with STAB Fire attacks.

In addition to that, Delphox has access to both Reflect and Light Screen, which are commonly found in many of the best teams in Pokemon Legends: ZA due to the sheer damage reduction they provide to the entire team. Mega Delphox will inevitably be a powerhouse for a special attacker, and while it lacks ice coverage for Dragon and Ground-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: ZAit has cover moves like Solar Beam, Dazzling Gleam, Shadow Ball, and Focus Blast.
