The Resident Evil franchise has taken off lately. After the landmark success of Resident Evil 4stumbled the franchise along a bit Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6which many fans felt leaned far too much to the action side of the action-horror equation. That's not to say they're bad games, just that they deviated greatly from what a large part of the player base expected from Resident Evil.
Then came Resident Evil 7which was actually a soft reboot of the franchise, was succeeded by Resident Evil Village just a few years later. But there has been another key pillar in modernity Resident Evils construction that cannot be overlooked: remakes. Starting with Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019, Capcom has worked its way through the games in order, with the incredibly well received Resident Evil 4 remake is the studio's latest endeavor. Then RE4s remake, rumors and speculation have been rife, as audiences try to guess where the franchise will go next. Chances are it goes back to Resident Evil 5.

Why playing as Chris Redfield in a Resident Evil 5 remake would feel better than ever
Players would once again fill the shoes of Chris Redfield in a Resident Evil 5 remake, and the character could be felt better than ever.
A Resident Evil 5 remake seems likely, and not just for the obvious reasons
Wesker is back in action in 2023's Resident Evil 4
Of course, one would assume that Capcom will tackle Resident Evil 5 sometime, like the previous three RE remakes have so far enjoyed great critical and commercial success. But Capcom may well choose to remake the first one Resident Evil to make it more in line with the modern interpretations of its successors, or it could remake a spin-off that Resident Evil Revelations or Resident Evil: Code Veronica. In fact, these results are exactly what fans and journalists have been speculating about, and there have been plenty of rumors to support such notions.
But it still seems more likely Resident Evil 5 will be next up on the remake hack block. A major reason to believe this, aside from the fact that Capcom has only remade mainline entries so far, is that Wesker is in Resident Evil 4 remake, especially i Separate roads DLC. This is his first appearance in RE remake saga, and the unfortunate final scene of Separate roads seems to be queuing up for his role Resident Evil 5as he doubles down on his plan for mass extinction. It's impossible to know for sure, but it certainly seems like his presentation in the remake was designed with the intention of setting up RE5 story. It would therefore be strange to take a narrative detour in the meantime.
Resident Evil 5 may be the next remake, but probably not the next Resident Evil game
Although Capcom is remaking the first one Resident Evil or a spin-off game, which definitely seems likely, it's safe to say RE5 comes before them. That said, it would be surprising if RE5 remake would come to the scene before Resident Evil 9. 2025 will mark four years since the last real, forward-looking entry in the Resident Evil franchise, which left much up in the air regarding the future of the franchise. Except for Shadows of Rose DLC, which may or may not be linked to the next one Resident Evilnothing has come in the pipeline regarding the next step in the overall RE story.
Thus, Capcom is in somewhat of an interesting position when it comes to Resident Evil 5 remake. On the one hand, it seems like the most logical next step, and there's definitely a strong financial incentive, given the performance of the previous remakes, to bring it to market, but it would also mean further delaying the next original RE game. In other words, a RE5 remake is probably around the corner, but it's also probably not the first cabin from the range at the moment.
