What could Deadpool's kit look like?

If it's something that NetEase has nailed Marvel Rivalsit's the authenticity of its playable characters. The team spared no expense in bringing iconic superheroes and supervillains into a true hero shooter, where each character's abilities, passives, designs and moves faithfully recreate them as they appeared in the source material. The game launched last month with over 30 characters on the roster that already hosts some fan favorites. Most notably, Marvel's own Merc with a Mouth: Deadpool.

Deadpool is not included Marvel Rivals yet, but his inclusion is much like Thanos: inevitable. He is one of the most popular characters in the Marvel catalog and his latest film broke a billion at the box office last year. His debut in the game is a matter of “when” rather than if. That said, players have speculated how Wade Wilson would fit in Rivals gaming system. While there are some straightforward mechanics like his sword and weapon, NetEase has a lot of compelling options to explore for his kit.

Marvel Rivals' leaked game mode would require two characters to be used

Marvel Rivals has been going strong since launch, but a leaked game mode could turn two already popular characters into true must-haves here.

Deadpool has so much potential as a Marvel Rivals hero

Deadpool as a Duelist in Marvel Rivals

Deadpool as a duelist is the most likely route NetEase could take the character. It's the most popular role in the game, he's one of the most popular characters, and frankly, the damaging role suits his mercenary background all too well. But as for what they could do with Deadpool as Marvel Rivals' latest duelist, there are many options for them to join.

His primary source of damage should be his twin pistols, maybe even make them golden as a playful nod to Deadpool & Wolverine. They must be a short-to-mid-range attack, with an effective range about as long as Dr. Strange's spells or Venom's tentacles. And for more up close and personal melee encounters, his katanas would grab it. And he obviously needs a passive heal ability to represent his deep allergy to death.

When it comes to Deadpool's primary abilities, there are a few different aspects of his character that NetEase can focus on to create some valuable damaging abilities: his oft-forgotten teleportation technique, explosives, and his complete and utter disregard for the fourth wall.

He may have an ability where he brazenly teleports behind a chosen enemy, taunting and slashing them before returning to his original location. Another move could involve him producing a full-sized rocket launcher out of thin air and either using it as a mini-Iron Man ult or as a rocket jump for enhanced movement.

Deadpool's fourth wall breaks have the potential to be real showstopper moves and should be appropriately reserved for his ultimate ability. An ultimate where Wade “hacks” the game's code and hinders the enemy team would be fun to witness and dangerously effective in the heat of battle. It can be something as simple as flipping your controls, or something as elaborate as turning every enemy in a radius into a walking chimichanga that can do nothing but run away. If NetEase allows Deadpool to modify the game's code for his ultimate, the sky is truly the limit with its interesting and fun applications.

Could Deadpool work as a strategist?

As a mercenary armed to the teeth with swords, guns and explosives, making Deadpool a duelist might seem like the most obvious option. But anyone who knows the character understands that the unexpected is the norm wherever Deadpool is concerned. Making Wade a healer would be one of the most out-of-left-field and hilarious things NetEase could do with him.

The developers could even obscure the fact that Marvel Rivals is in dire need of more strategists and puts out an announcement where Deadpool himself tells the community that he's here to fix the lack of healers in the game. He could heal his teammates with chimichanga pickups that double as sandwiches Team Fortress 2. He would still obviously need to have strong damage potential, but characters like Loki, Mantis and Cloak and Dagger show that NetEase isn't afraid to Marvel Rivals'healer's powerhouse in its own right.

Deadpool's Team-Up Possibilities

Marvel RivalsTeam-ups are one of its most interesting features, where heroes with shared character histories or similar power-ups can team up and unleash new and unorthodox attacks. Deadpool would be ripe with opportunity for this feature as Wade has never shied away from an old fashioned crossover. As a result, there are plenty of great opportunities for him to team up with his teammates, with some particularly exciting standouts.

Of course, Wolverine would be a must after the success of the pair's bromantic comedy last year, but Deadpool has had an equally famous friendship with Spider-Man. Jeff the Landshark is a relatively new ally to the Wades, even hosting the Venom symbiote for a time. Perhaps more than any character, Deadpool needs to have an allied ability with Cable. He's not in the game yet, but if he does make the list, the famous friendship between Cable and Deadpool in the comics should be acknowledged.
