Warzone reveals much-requested feature coming in 2026

After years of player requests, developer Raven Software has finally announced a major map rotation feature for Call of Duty: Warzonewill arrive early next year. Battle Royale titles such as Apex Legends has long been able to rotate large-scale maps to keep players' experience fresh, but Call of Duty: Warzone has insisted that previously “wasn't realistic”. However, that no longer appears to be the case, as Raven Software says it will implement the feature in 2026.

The announcement comes as Activision, Treyarch Studios and Raven Software gear up for the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on November 14. The next entry in the series will be a direct sequel to 2012's Black Ops 2with recurring characters David Mason and Raul Menendez. Fans can also expect tons of new features, weapons, maps, modes and more in Black Ops 7including a development of Black Ops 6s omnimotion system. But with a full integration between War zone and Black Ops 7 Raven Software is set for Season 1 and has now given fans a glimpse of what's to come.

Call of Duty: Warzone Big Map Rotation Coming in 2026

Earlier this week, Treyarch Studios gave fans a sneak peek at the Season 1 roadmap for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The massive content update will bring a host of new maps, weapons and more to the shooter, as well as some big changes in Call of Duty: Warzone. In a new community update, Raven Software provided fans with some details about the future of the free-to-play title and announced that it will be expanding Battle Royale will include support for multiple large maps via map rotation. The studio noted that it was “not realistic in the past” to host multiple large maps simultaneously, but it has since taken the necessary steps to support it. While it won't be part of the big Season 1 update, fans can expect it to be released early next year.

Many other changes are also coming, which Raven says it is aware of War zones Rebirth Island map and the wider Resurgence experience has “started to feel a bit stale.” The studio goes on to reveal that it will deliver a “full refresh” to Rebirth Island in Season 2, which will include new POI updates, a cosmetic pass, and several other upgrades that improve flow. As previously announced, Season 1 of the Black Ops 7 will bring another new Resurgence map War zone known as Haven's Hollow, which Raven says has received some significant updates in recent months based on feedback from early previews of the map.

There is currently no release date for season 1 of Black Ops 7but Raven says a seasonal roadmap for War zone will be released next month, followed by a playlist blog. Before that, however, the studio says it intends to share a deep dive in the coming weeks, which will give fans insight into how Raven intends to deliver a high frequency of updates, with a greater emphasis on balance changes, no less than twice per season. Raven says its approach to weapon and accessory balancing is “fundamentally shifting,” meaning redefined roles at launch followed by multiple balance sessions per season with tweaks entirely unique to War zone.
