The first Hokage of Konoha, Hashirama Senju was first introduced in the Konoha Crush Arc, specifically in the Naruto Chapter 118 April 22, 2002. 24 years have passed since then, and his legend has only grown. His exploits as the God of Shinobi continued to grow in the second half of the Naruto story. Hashirama Senju was especially known for being a unique Jutsu user with Wood Release. While many Shinobi have various Kekkei Genkai, Wood Release is a fairly rare ability that not many have wielded historically.
In fact, Hashirama was the only one naturally born with this power, and its strength was such that it was coveted by many after his death, including his greatest rival, Madara Uchiha. Hashirama died a long time ago. Now, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex officially adds its successor when it comes to the use of Wood Release Ninjutsu. After decades, Konoha now has a natural Wood Release user in the form of Moegi Kazamatsuri, who is now confirmed to wield the power of this uniquely rare Kekkei Genkai himself.
Moegi Kazamatsuri is officially confirmed to be the successor of Hashirama as the new Wood Release user in Boruto Volume 4
Wood Release is a unique anomaly in Hashirama Senju's DNA that allows him to combine Earth Release and Water Release to create various forms of vegetation and manipulate any wood structure that can exist in nature. Wood Release is an incredibly overpowered ability, not only because of the immense defensive ability and ability to change the terrain with abilities like Deep Forest Emergence, but also because of its unique ability to absorb the Tailed Beast chakra, as well as the chakra of all individuals found in the Naruto world. For all of these reasons, Wood Release is especially unique as a Kekkei Genkai, and it is also because of these characteristics that individuals such as Madara Uchiha, and even Konoha, sought to replicate this power in a multitude of ways.
While all the various experiments that Konoha did eventually failed, what really stands out is that in the Boruto era, Konoha has now successfully managed to produce a unique Wood Release user naturally. This person is none other than Moegi Kazamatsuri. In Boruto Vol. 4's official release, Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto confirm that Moegi Kazamatsuri is a Wood Release user.

For those who don't remember, Moegi was a Genin who used to hang out with Konohamaru Sarutobi in the Naruto series. In the Boruto era, she is now a full-fledged Jonin in the village and one of the strongest fighters in the series. She currently leads Team 10, and it's clear to see why she is as trusted in Konoha as she is. With the power of Wood Release, Moegi controls one of the rarest and most powerful abilities in the world, and we can't wait to see her in action as Boruto: Two Blue Vortex edges deeper into the Shinju arcs.

Why Moegi could be linked to the Senju clan
Although Moegi was officially confirmed to have the power of Wood Release in Boruto Volume 4, we still don't know how she gained access to this ability in the first place. What is clear is that Moegi Kazamatsuri has awakened this power naturally, unlike Yamato, which was an experiment created using Hashirama's DNA. Since Moegi was a natural Wood Release user, this raises the possibility that she has a connection to the Senju clan. After all, Hashirama is the only individual to have possessed this Kekkei Genkai, and he belonged to the Senju. In other words, Moegi may be connected to the Senju or may have been born from a branch family of the Senju clan itself.

The answer to this question is unlikely to be revealed anytime soon, but it is likely that there is a blood connection between her and the first Hokage of Konoha, who died at an unknown time period. If Moegi is indeed connected to Senju, then this also greatly increases her chakra. It is officially stated in the Naruto series that the Senju clan are known to have significant reserves of chakra as well as incredible vitality. With such immense powers, Moegi could stand as one of Konoha's strongest Jonin in the current period, which is something that excites us all, in terms of seeing her fight in the future.
Moegi's Wood Release Jutsu includes Green Hued Jutsu and Vegetation Jutsu
Unfortunately, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has not given Moegi Kazamatsuri any fighting opportunities, but the official volume release confirms that Moegi is a user of two specific wood-style jutsu.

The Green-Hued jutsu: We don't know what this jutsu does, but from the naming itself, we can say that this jutsu spreads greenery around it in some way or form, be it in vegetation or through spores that paralyze the enemy.

The Vegetation Jutsu: As the name suggests, it allows Moegi to produce vegetation around her and is one of the most basic jutsu in Wood Release that Hashirama Senju used on various occasions.

With powers like these, Moegi is a force to be reckoned with, and we absolutely can't wait to see what she's capable of later in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex when she takes the spotlight on her own. With two Shinju left in Hidari and Jura, whose storyline began to be tackled in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 35 on June 18, 2026, Moegi has plenty of opportunities to shine in battle. After Shinju's fall, there is also the threat of Code, as well as the potential rebirth of Akebi as an Otsutsuki. Again, this creates further opportunities for Moegi to showcase his Wood Release powers and establish himself as the true successor to the first Hokage, Hashirama Senju.
