Summary
- Some hero costumes and physiques of My Hero Academia characters can make them look like villains.
- Heroes like Eraser Head and Vlad King have intimidating looks and abilities.
- Hound Dog’s terrifying appearance can easily make him seem like a bad guy.
Before they debut as pro heroes in My Hero Academia, every young and aspiring hero gets to design their own hero costume. These costumes may change over time, but the overall design should remain the same. After all, a costume is an integral part of a hero’s identity.

My Hero Academia’s manga features many long story arcs. From the sports festival to the open wars, here are the longest story arcs in the MHA manga.
That being said, not every hero costume is created equal. Some look cool and inspiring, while others barely look like a hero costume. Not only that, some heroes also inherently have a scary physique or a terrifying face. Add the bad costume to the mix, and you get a hero who somehow manages to look like a villain. With that in mind, here are the top heroes who look like villains. Keep in mind that this list is subjective and it focuses solely on the heroes’ appearance, especially their costumes, physiques, and faces, and not their personalities.

Erasure Hero: Eraser Head
A Suspicious-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Shota Aizawa
- Quirk: Erasure
- First Appearance: Episode 1
Shota Aizawa is a pro hero and the homeroom teacher of U.A. High School’s Class 1-A. His quirk, Erasure, allows him to temporarily erase other people’s quirks as long as he keeps the target in his sight. He is one of the most important and influential characters in the series.
Looking at Eraser Head in his full pro hero costume may not instantly conjure up the image of a villain, but he certainly looks like a suspicious person. His disheveled hair, scruffy face, all-black outfit, sharp eyes, and generally smug attitude all scream ‘problematic individual.’ If you saw Eraser Head standing in front of your house, you’d almost certainly mistake him for someone suspicious.
9
Blood Hero: Vlad King
A Scary-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Sekijiro Kan
- Quirk: Blood Control
- First Appearance: Episode 13
Similar to Eraser Head, Vlad King is also a pro hero and a teacher at U.A. High School. He is the homeroom teacher of Class 1-B. Unlike the generally laid-back Eraser Head, however, Vlad is a stern and competitive teacher who always pushes his students to do better than Class 1-A.
From his muscular physique to his stern expression to his visible fangs, Vlad is easily one of the most intimidating-looking heroes in the series. He looks like a vampire with the body of a pro wrestler. Add to that the fact that his quirk allows him to control blood, and you have a scary-looking vampire in your hand.
8
Centipeder
A Vile-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Juzo Moashi
- Quirk: Centipede
- First Appearance: Episode 69
Centipeder is a pro hero who works as a sidekick in Sir Nighteye’s hero agency. As the name suggests, his quirks enable him to turn his limbs into the body of a centipede. Since he can freely adjust the length of his centipede limbs, this quirk is extremely useful for restraining the bad guys.

Unfortunately for Juzo, his quirk granted him not only centipede’s limbs but also centipede’s head. A lot of people already feel a mix of fear and disgust when seeing centipedes, or even insects in general. So it’s understandable that when regular people see Centipeder, their first reaction is a mix of fear and disgust, much like the feeling they get when encountering a villain.

Lariat
A Thug-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Daigoro Banjo
- Quirk: Blackwhip; One-For-All
- First Appearance: Episode 113
Lariat is a pro hero and the fifth wielder of the One-For-All Quirk. He was active as a hero decades before the story, when the world was still drowned in crimes and chaos. His quirk is Blackwhip and the One-For-All that he received from the previous wielder.
No matter how you see it, Lariat looks like a common thug. He looks like the kind of man that you will avoid whenever you see him casually walking down the road. When you combine his appearance with his brazen attitude and tendency to raise his voice, he seems even more like a villain than a hero.
6
Chivalrous Hero: Fourth Kind
A Yakuza-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Unknown
- Quirk: Quad Arms
- First Appearance: Episode 27
Fourth Kind is a pro hero and the mentor for both Red Riot from Class 1-A and Real Steel from Class 1-B as part of their Hero Agency Internship Program. His quirk, Quad Arms, is quite straightforward. He has four arms, which not only allow him to grab more things but also greatly increase his strength.
Fourth Kind looks like a Yakuza. The black suit, the gold rings, the buzz cut, the facial scar, the constant irritated glare, Fourth Kind couldn’t look more like a Yakuza if he tried. He’s the kind of man who instills a fear of violence not just in criminals, but in innocent civilians as well.
5
Chivalrous Hero: Crimson Riot
A Gangster-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Unknown
- Quirk: Unnamed Hardening Quirk
- First Appearance: Episode 26
Crimson Riot is a pro hero who was active during the prime days of All Might. He is Red Riot’s favorite hero. Not only because they both have a similar hardening quirk, but also because Crimson Riot is one of the bravest and most stoic men that Red Riot has ever known.

Aqua Hero: Gang Orca
An Evil-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Kugo Sakamata
- Quirk: Orcinus
- First Appearance: Episode 46
Gang Orca is a pro hero who has appeared numerous times in the story. He has been part of almost every large-scale attack, such as the League of Villains’ Nomu Factory raid and the Gunga Mountain Villa raid. He even takes part in the final war against All-For-One and his henchmen.
Due to his menacing look, Gang Orca has often been mistaken for a villain. Interestingly enough, Gang Orca fully embraces his terrifying look. That’s why he gladly acts as the villain during the Provisional Hero License.
3
Lion Hero: Shishido
A Savage-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Unknown
- Quirk: Lion
- First Appearance: Episode 103
Shishido is a pro hero and a big rival of Gang Orca. Unlike his rival, however, Shishido only appears in the story a handful of times, particularly during big events like the Paranormal Liberation War and the Final War. And as the name suggests, Shishido’s quirk enables him to use the speed, power, and attributes of a lion, such as the sharp fangs and claws.
Like many others with mutant Quirks, particularly those who develop beast-like traits, Shishido looks terrifying. He may not have a full lion’s body, but he certainly possesses its most fearsome features: paw-like hands with razor-sharp claws and a jaw lined with deadly teeth.
2
Hunting Dog Hero: Hound Dog
A Dangerous-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Ryo Inui
- Quirk: Dog
- First Appearance: Episode 13
Hound Dog is a pro hero and the Head of Student Discipline in U.A. High School. Similar to other beast quirks like Gang Orca and Shishido that manifest the traits of certain animals, Hound Dog’s quirk allows him to use the enhanced sense of smell and hearing of a dog.

In real life, a lion is scarier than a dog, but in this series, Hound Dog is scarier than Shishido. The reason is simply because Hound Dog is bigger and taller than Shishido. On top of that, his furry costume and the muzzle covering his snout only add to his image as a terrifying beast.
1
Monster Hero: Godzillo
A Godzilla-Looking Hero
- Real Name: Unknown
- Quirk: Toho
- First Appearance: My Hero Academia: Two Heroes.
Godzillo is a pro hero who appears in the movie My Hero Academia: Two Heroes. Think of him as a knockoff version of the iconic monster Godzilla. Even his quirk, Toho, is based on the name of the company that produced the Godzilla franchise. By the way, his quirk gives him the attribute of Godzilla and makes his body bigger and stronger.
As for why he looks like a villain, well, this one is pretty self-explanatory, isn’t it? It’s Godzilla. The King of Kaiju. The Apex Predator. Just the sight of him is enough to send a chill down everyone’s spine. Sure, those who know Godzillo can testify that he is actually a kind hero, but everybody who doesn’t know who he is will undoubtedly turn around and run for their life. He doesn’t just look like a villain; he looks like the embodiment of fear and destruction.
