Legend of Zelda Fan Creates Hylian Shield in Real Life
A fan of Zelda franchise called MegaSeneca has shared their recreation of the iconic Hylian Shield, which they built from EVA craft foam. The shield is a perfect remake of the original, with the iconic Hylian Crest and Triforce on the front. Although made from a fairly light and malleable foam, the shield strongly resembles real metal, and even the inside of the shield has been carefully crafted, with a faux wood grain that looks straight out of the games. Fans have particularly applauded the level of detail the shield has been given, and how MegaSeneca made something built from foam look like a real battle-ready piece.

Players have been asking for additional information about the build, which MegaSeneca has shed some light on. MegaSeneca explained that it took them about two weeks to build, despite dividing their time between other projects and work. Also, while they don't have photos of the base build, they later shared a video showing how they finished it, using a combination of painting, airbrushing, and sanding. The shield in motion is arguably even more impressive, as it fully reveals the stunningly realistic shine of the “metal”.
Fans of games have found all sorts of ways to recreate their favorite weapons, shields and tools from games over the years, with many building game props using 3D printers. Others choose to use foam like MegaSeneca, while some have gone so far as to actually use blacksmithing skills to create real, working armor, weapons and shields. Official replicas of the Hylian Shield have also been produced, but creating the item from scratch likely brings a sense of satisfaction to the craftsman that a purchased version simply cannot match.
