The official Doomsday poster may be AI-generated

Earlier today, we finally got our first good look at Avengers Doomsday, giving us a questionable Doctor Doom, plenty of fights, and more superheroes and villains you can shake a stick at. That's pretty exciting if you're a Marvel fan, and you'd assume there's absolutely nothing Disney could do to dampen any of that hype, right?

Well, in comes generative AI to spoil the party again, as quite a few fans are eyeing the official poster of the film with suspicion.

Marvel thinks Disney has used AI again

In case you missed it, you can see the poster above. It features Doctor Doom crouched in front of a large tapestry, which has multiple angles hovering around a woman and child. It's probably Doctor Doom's dead wife and child, although that's just a theory that's been floating around ever since the photo leaked a while ago.

That said, the content of the tapestry is what people believe Disney has used AI to at least enhance or partially generate. On the Is This AI subreddit, the poster was the subject of some pretty intense scrutiny, with the angels' wings and the middle finger of the woman in the center being key indicators that something might be wrong.

Most claim that the angels are the biggest tells that AI could have been used, as each angle has a different construction when it comes to their wings. For example, the angel in the upper left looks relatively normal, but the one in the middle right has very forked wings.

“I could be wrong, but the tapestry art style looks like AI slop style, even though the whole image is not AI,” said a user named Comfortable-Air-6615. “Those wings look like good forks for spags,” says another named Comfortable_Slice_11.

Other points in the image that have been mentioned are the edge of the tapestry, as it does not have a distinct pattern or density all the way around, and the lights next to the tapestry, which almost blend into the background.

Of course, it's worth pointing out that none of this has been confirmed, and it's still up in the air if Disney has at least partially used AI for the poster, but it wouldn't be the first time the company has used generative AI for official marketing.

If you can even remember Secret Invasion, the opening for the show was completely AI-generated, with rather ghostly depictions of humans. It's been argued that it was a deliberate choice, but it's still generative AI, and it's proof that Marvel has a history of it. Hopefully that's not the case with Avengers Doomsday.
