The Heretical Prophet can shine in one area

No stranger to controversy, Naughty Dog's reveal of its upcoming latest IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophethas been met with what can best be described as a mixed reception. The debut trailer for Intergalactic was inundated with negative reactions and suffered an unfavorable like-to-dislike ratio, prompting Naughty Dog to immediately disable comments on YouTube. On the other side of the answer to Intergalactics reveal is a contingent of fans who have high hopes that the game will maintain the same standard of polish and storytelling that Naughty Dog is known for. Whichever camp players fall into, there's no doubt about it Intergalactics musical score will be an instant win for the title.

In addition to briefly introducing players to the world and characters of Intergalactictrailer dropped a bombshell by revealing that the title's original score was composed by none other than Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. From what was shown Intergalactics original, unlicensed music in the trailer, players can expect an evocative synth-laden score that bears many of the trademarks Ross and Reznor are known for in their highly acclaimed and award-winning work. As for its soundtrack, Intergalactic is already ahead of the curve.

Like The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's Intergalactic should boldly go where few studios have gone before

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is Naughty Dog's first opportunity in quite some time to blaze a new trail for itself, even in its storytelling.

Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor's Contribution to Intergalactic Good

Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet composers win Golden Globe for Best Score

Although his more recent work consists primarily of official scores and soundtracks with composer Atticus Ross, Trent Reznor is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking work as the sole driving force behind Nine Inch Nails. Although various artists including Ross have contributed to Nine Inch Nails' groundbreaking output over the years, the project is essentially a solo act with Reznor at the helm, and the importance of Nine Inch Nails' contribution to industrial music and alternative rock cannot be overstated. During his time off from Nine Inch Nails, Reznor has used his artistic talents to score films and games, including the iconic soundtrack for Quakewith similar accolades and success in tow.

Ross and Reznor are fresh off yet another award for the pair's work on the film's score Challengerwith the Golden Globe recently winning the ninth major award the duo has received for their work. Although Reznor and Ross' scores are unique and suited to each project, they share elements such as minimalist, electronic composition meant to be evocative and emotional. Given Intergalactics retro-futuristic sci-fi setting, it's hard to think of a pair more suited to scoring in the game, and that can only serve them and Intergalactic developer Naughty Dog further recognition for its efforts.

What to expect from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet's OST

In addition to the original compositions especially for Intergalactic by Ross and Reznor, it's a safe assumption that Intergalactic will contain at least some licensed music, as shown in Intergalactics debut trailer. The music in the reveal was a mix of what were instantly recognizable as moody electronic soundscapes similar to Ross and Reznor's previous work, and the back half of the trailer featured the track “It's a Sin” by British synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys. Given Iintergalacticthe protagonist's apparent fondness for 1980s pop culture—and Sony's vast catalog of licensed music to which it owns the rights—Intergalactic may contain a mix of original songs and other hits from the decade.

Although players know very little about Intergalactic other than what was shown in the trailer, that hasn't stopped a sizable group of fans from voicing their expectations for the game. Naughty Dog's past work indicates that Intergalactic should deliver on both gameplay and story, but at least players can be sure the game will sound good thanks to the composers' pedigree.
