Take off your shoes if you want to be sneaky

Summary

  • Oblivion Remastered seems to have changed how sneaky works, because reaching the on -call in the attribute no longer lets you wear all the boots you like.

  • Your movement noise will increase the higher the weight of your boots, no matter how good your sneak is, and this also applies to the entire body's armor sets.

  • The only way to really sneak around silent is to get your arrests out, or to throw wizards if you feel a bit shy.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is largely the same game as the original, albeit much shiny. Its silly conversations between NPCs, exploitation that breaks the laws of physics and charming jank is all there, but Bethesda has made some tweaks into certain things. Much of the battle has been reworked, as have the leveling system, which means that some benefits have changed quite considerably.

Over the weekend, such an attribute that seems to have changed quite considerably is to sneak, as a Reddit user called Voruvi noticed that you actually make much more sound in Oblivion Remastered while you sculled around. They point out that in the original game, to reach the on -call in sneaky stopped the weight of your boots from affecting how much noise you do when you go, but this does not seem to be the case anymore.

Oblivion Remastered PSA: Take off your shoes if you want to be sneaky

Voruvi did some experiments in remaster to determine exactly how things have been adjusted, and they discovered that the weight of your boots will affect how much sound you make at all levels that are sneaking. Even with the upswing after reaching 50 sneak, heavy boots “Cripple your ability to sneak up on NPC's undiscovered”.

Oblivion remastered proves that 4K does not make photo realism, good lighting does

Even a 720p game with good lighting will be more impressive than a bland experience that is blown up in our eyeballs of 4K.

In fact, it seems that the zero-incumbers bonuses you get for light armor and heavy armor at 75 and 100, respectively, do not matter either. You will make more sound based on the weight of your shoes, and that's it. You can mitigate it by getting a high creepy level, but you will still make a lot of sound clicking around Daedric boots. This also applies to full -body armor sets, as the weight of the entire armor is applied to your feet.

Thankfully, Voruvi has a few ways to make sure you can slip past people undiscovered, but that means getting your arresters. Because walking barefoot means that no weight is applied to your feet, you can tip past people as quietly as a mouse, regardless of any other armor you wear.

If you consider yourself pretty good at spelling, you can also throw magic boots – because it is apparently the only boots in the game with a weight of nothing – or you can throw invisibility, because a user named Almainyy points out to spell your footprints as well. Armed with this knowledge you can now sneak around without care in the world, and the whole of Cyrodiil must now be careful with Barefoot Bandit.
