Steam Controller review goes up early, cites $99 price tag

The Steam Controller is poised to be the second biggest big deal Valve throws at us anytime soon. The first is, of course, the Steam Machine. Gabe's gaming rig tried its luck with a controller before, but it wasn't very good. This one looks much nicer. But how much will it cost? And when will it be in our hands?

The latter is still hard to say, although we have reason to believe it won't be long. Because the former, you see, was quite likely to have been accidentally revealed when someone posted an early review. How early? Who knows! But we're probably talking days, weeks maybe. Not months.

Ninety-nine US dollars?

Valve's Steam Controller

The unintentionally early review was first seen on Reddit. YouTuber Tech Talks accidentally broke the embargo; that kind of mistake is sure to happen from time to time in this business, but it usually happens pretty close to when the data goes live, so I guess we're not far off.

As you can see, people were quick to download the entire video. I'm not going to link to it directly, but the tweet below from prolific social media icon Wario64 will do it for you. It's certainly legit, and yes, $99 USD is the move Valve is making here. That's on par with the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Cons when bought on their own, and around 25 percent higher than a PlayStation 5 controller. That's only ten dollars more than the Switch 2 Pro controller. Look, I make excuses; this is too expensive. I'm just pointing out price additions.

For more information on the Steam controller's capabilities, check out Valve's official site. I guess you are all as excited about a magnetic puck contact as I am.

If you want to make a single player Final Fantasy 14, Yoshi-P will be in touch

Yoshida explains that he is “half joking, half serious” when it comes to hearing pitches from companies and individuals about creating a single-player FF14.
