Assassin's Creed Hex may be stripped of its supernatural, magical elements before it finally reaches players, according to information released by a leaker with a relatively reliable track record. Blends traditional stealth-based Assassin's Creed gameplay with a dark tone inspired by 16th century European witch trials, the upcoming game is expected to be released in late 2027.
The upcoming game was first revealed to the world during a Ubisoft Forward showcase in September 2022, which also included revelations of Assassin's Creed Mirage, Assassin's Creed Red, Assassin's Creed Infinityand Assassin's Creed Jadealong with several games not associated with the assassination series. But some parts of the game can change dramatically during the production phase, especially after Assassin's Creed Hex Creative director Clint Hocking left Ubisoft at the end of February, neither Hocking nor Ubisoft gave any official reason for the split. Much more recently, game director Benoit Richer announced that he is leaving Ubisoft to join Servo Games, with Jean Guesdon now fully in charge as Assassin's Creeds chief content officer. Under his leadership, the upcoming game may take a major turn in its gameplay and story, with prominence Assassin's Creed leaker j0nathan says that Guesdon is removing all mystical and magical features from the game.
Reports from mid-2025 have already revealed leaked information re Assassin's Creed Hexs plot, which reportedly revolves around a character named Elsa who seeks revenge in relation to her mother's trial and execution on suspicion of witchcraft. Other leaks about the upcoming game claimed that Elsa would have access to some supernatural abilities, including the power to possess a cat, which would both let her distract the guards and help her reach some otherwise inaccessible areas. The new leak from j0nathan says that this feature and potentially other magical elements have been scrapped under Guesdon's orders.
Guesdon is no stranger to Assassin's Creed franchise, having had prominent roles tied to the development of several players in the series. He joined Ubisoft Montreal in 2005 as a production coordinator and was credited in that role for the first Assassin's Creed game. Perhaps most notably, he has served as creative director for both Assassin's Creed Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Originswhich are widely considered to be two of the best games in the Assassin's Creed series.
