Star Wars Jedi should come full circle on the Cal Kestis adaptation

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Fixed a major customization bug. Lightsaber component configurations have been consistently intricate in the series, to be fair, but what's memorable about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orders customization is little more than palette swaps for Cal Kestis, BD-1 and Stinger Mantis. It wasn't until Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that Respawn invested in elaborate customization options, at least beyond multiple colorways for ponchos and jumpsuits, and it allows Cal to adopt a fully dynamic look now that he can grow a long full beard.

Clothing options are wonderful to look at Survivingespecially since they cover a wide range of specific era-related Star Wars lore. Respawn and EA also took the opportunity to make a point Surviving with fan-service cosmetics inspired by Star Wars' A new hope and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Both nostalgic and original clothing items are now expected to return in the franchise's final chapter, although there is one simple and understated type that Respawn will hopefully take extra care to include as it would help the series complete its trilogy: a hood draped over Cal's head.

The final chapter of Star Wars Jedi is in desperate need of another Taron Malicos

Not since Taron Malico has Star Wars Jedi featured a rogue firebrand whose turn to the dark side was as radical, and that should be remedied.

How Cal Kesti's Hooded Poncho Makes an Unanswered Impact on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

A hood cosmetic might not be so requested or anticipated if it wasn't for Respawn teasing one. In fact, Cal wore the hood of his scrapper poncho over his head when he was first revealed in the cinematic reveal trailer for The Fallen Order— in the first shot of the trailer, no less. The hood here helped sell the idea that Cal was actively hiding from the Galactic Empire and the Inquisitors on Bracca, keeping a low profile and not stepping on any toes to live a quiet life as a fugitive.

It is therefore disappointing that players wear the same hooded Scrapper Guild poncho in the game, but there is no option to have the hood over Cal's head. This isn't particularly alarming considering how minimal customization options are for Cal in The Fallen Order for starters, though Surviving also eschewed the option of having a hooded top in its sprawling catalog.

Star Wars Jedi Cal Kestis doesn't have to go to the dark side to don a hood

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of Wars cosmetics include iconic hooded capes. Shadow of Mordor's was included as a Dark Ranger pre-order bonus skin, while Shadow of Mordors is embedded in the sequel's gear system and endgame story when Talion becomes a Nazgul.

This connotation in Monolith's Midgard duology would suggest that hoods are associated with darkness and, in Talion's case, being enslaved by the ring of Isildur – one of the nine rings given to men. Of course, countless characters have worn hooded cloaks with no particular meaning or subtext other than potentially trying to hide their identity, as seen with Aragorn's Strider persona on Bree's Pancing Pony. Still, it's remarkably good-looking and marks an aesthetic demarcation that cosmetics don't often seem to have in many games, and is striking as a result.

If Respawn wanted to, it could have two useful ways to associate a hood with Star Wars Jedi's Cal Kestis: it can provide a hood as a pre-order bonus similar Murdererss, or it could throw Cal down a path to the dark side and provide him with a hooded suit when Anakin Skywalker takes on Revenge of the Sithmuch less how Talion dons a hood when damaged by the ring. Otherwise, a plain cape with the hood up over Cal's head that is free of any light or dark connotations would be great to see in the final chapter of Star Wars Jedi.
