While God of War Laufey will focus on Faye, series creative director Cory Barlog reassured fans by saying that Kratos will still be the focus for the future God of war stories. Although he will still have a presence in the upcoming PS5 title, God of War Laufey will be the first game in Sony's hit series not to feature Kratos as the protagonist.
God of War Laufey was officially revealed during the final segment of the State of Play broadcast on June 2. God of War Laufey had a 22-minute debut that showed fans a glimpse of the game's opening sequences. God of War Laufey will see players control Faye, Kratos' deceased wife, as she navigates the afterlife of the gods known as Everywhen. Faye will also battle other gods from different mythologies when she learns that the promise she made to Kratos and Atreus before her death may be in jeopardy. God of War Laufey currently has no release window, although it will be a PS5 exclusive.

God of War developers confirm that Kratos still has stories to tell
Despite the early criticism that God of War Laufey Received after State of Play, Santa Monica Studio assured fans that Kratos will be back in the spotlight in future stories. Sony published an interview between God of war series creative director Cory Barlog and Laufey game director Ariel Lawrence immediately following State of Play. Barlog confirmed it at the same time Laufey will be entirely Faye's journey through Everywhen, Santa Monica Studio isn't done with Kratos. Barlog said, “Faye is, even though it's a different thing, it's still part of the larger fabric of what we really want to explore, all these different characters in there. But there will always be Kratos games throughout the story.”
Lawrence said as she returned to Santa Monica Studio in 2021 to direct Laufeyshe admitted her surprise when she found out it was focused on Faye and not Kratos. Lawrence said, “I just assumed it was going to be another Kratos game and that was the one I was going to tell stories about for the rest of my life.” Lawrence agreed with Barlog, saying that Santa Monica Studio still has stories to tell about Kratos. Neither Lawrence nor Barlog elaborated further on the future God of war titles that can be dropped after Laufey.
However, Kratos will still be the main draw for another ongoing project at Santa Monica Studio. God of War Trilogy Remake is in development for PS5. The upcoming collection will retell Kratos' personal conflict with the Olympians and various monsters from Greek mythology. God of War Trilogy Remake will also see Kratos' original voice actor, TC Carson, reprise his role.

In addition, God of war will have an Amazon Prime Video TV series debuting in 2027, which will feature Kratos, Atreus and other characters from the Norse pantheon. Although Kratos will take on a supporting role in God of War Laufeyit's only a matter of time before Ghost of Sparta returns to the spotlight.
