PlayStation raised the price of PS Plus for new and lapsed customers last week. It now offers an olive branch of sorts as, whether you're a new subscriber or an existing one, you can sign up to any level of PlayStation's subscription service during Days of Play.
The latest Days of Play sale kicked off on Wednesday, offering discounts on games, hardware and yes, PlayStation Plus subscriptions. Big ones too, and across all three tiers – Essential, Extra and Premium. There's a catch though, and it makes this feel a bit like a well-planned trap.
Did PlayStation plan this?
The only subscription length you can currently get for less is 12 months. You can buy Plus one, three or 12 months at a time. It's the one and three month subs that were hit with price increases last week. Logging in for a full year with Plus was not affected. The skeptics among you might think that those who bought PS Plus one and three months at a time were dissuaded from doing so last week, only to be tempted to commit to a full year seven days later.

Each game will come to PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium in May 2026
Every game coming to Essential, Extra and Premium and the dates you'll be able to play them for free.
Whether this was all planned by PlayStation or a happy accident, there's no denying that the discounts offered for 12-month subscriptions to PS Plus are great. Commit to 12 months of Essential and you'll pay $63.99 instead of $79.99a price drop of 20 percent. That price drop is even steeper if you're someone who usually pays monthly, as the new price of $10.99 for a month of Essential means you'd pay $131.88 over the course of a year.
The savings are even greater if you commit to an extra 12 months during Days of Play. 25 percent off the regular $134.99 you're expected to pay drops the price to $101.24. Like the Essential, that's almost exactly half the $203.88 you'd pay for the Extra if you were to stick with a monthly plan after the price hike.
Big savings on premium and offers for existing subscribers
Premium offers the biggest discount of all. $107.19, a 33 percent reduction from the standard price of $159.99 per year. That's less than $6 more than a yearly subscription to Extra. I guess the idea behind it is that when people see the minimal difference between the tiers, they'll just pay the extra $6 to get a year of access to Premium.
Existing subscribers were not affected by the recent price increase, and probably won't be until a time when they need to rebuild their PS Plus. In even better news for those who never left the service, existing subscribers can also take advantage of the Days of Play discount. If you don't already subscribe to Premium, you can upgrade the remainder of a 12-month Extra sub to the top tier of Plus with the discount applied, or an Essential sub to Extra or Premium for the lower Days of Play price.
