Pokemon GO Announces June Super Mega Raid Day

A new Super Mega Raid Day event has been announced for Pokémon GOand it will mark the debut of Mega Skarmory in the game. Skarmory is one of several Pokemon that received a new Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: ZAwhich was released on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in 2025. Niantic has been slowly adding some of these new Mega Evolutions to Pokémon GOincluding Mega Victreebel, Mega Dragonite and Mega Malamar.

Pokémon GOs new season began on June 2, with the theme “Forever Forward”. The new season promises the addition of several new Mega Evolutions, including Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. Mega Skarmory's addition to the game was announced with the new season, but no details were given at the time. Mega Mewtwo X and Y will also be added to the game as part of Pokemon GO Fest 2026. The first in-person event has already taken place in Japan, but events in Chicago and Copenhagen will take place in June, with a global event for all players in July.

Pokémon GO players will have a chance to get the Mega Skarmory during a Super Mega Raid Day event on Saturday, June 27. The event will run from 14:00 to 17:00 local time, and players can encounter Shiny Skarmory during that time. Niantic will increase the Remote Raid limit to 20 between Friday, June 26 at 17.00 up to and including Saturday 27 June at 8 p.m. PT. That window should give players a better chance of getting friends from different time zones to join the event. Pokémon GOSuper Mega Raids are a bit tougher, so having more people to play with is definitely a good thing.

Skarmory debuted in Pokemon Gold and Silverwhich were the first games to introduce Steel types. Unlike some other Pokémon, Skarmory retains its typing after undergoing Mega Evolution, remaining a Steel/Flying type. It means Pokémon GO Standard Skarmory Raids strategies will still work, and a good Fire or Electric type Pokemon will be essential. However, since this is a Super Mega Raid, it will take a lot more players to win.

Shiny Skarmory will be easier to find during Super Mega Raid Day, and it might be worth the effort to track down. Skarmory gains a gold color scheme when undergoing Mega Evolution. Shiny Skarmory is not that different from the standard color, with a different shade of silver and some green accents. However, that color pattern remains when it undergoes Mega Evolution, and it's already made it a fan favorite in the short time since Pokemon Legends: ZAs release. Players who would prefer a Mega Skarmory that has a color pattern closer to the Pokemon's classic look will want to bet on finding a Shiny.

Niantic wasted no time adding some of last year's Mega Evolutions Pokémon GObut the mobile game isn't in danger of ending anytime soon. Pokemon Legends: ZA and its DLC introduced tons of new Mega Evolutions, and players can expect to see them gradually added Pokémon GO in the future. The feature has become a pretty big part of the game over the past few years, and it's almost certain to remain the case. Not all fans have been happy with Niantic's handling of Super Mega Raids, and some would prefer to see traditional Mega Raids instead. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the developers will make any changes in the near future.
