Despite some really strange backlash to God of War Laufey after the initial reveal – with even Domino's pizza taking cheap shots at the game – a large majority of players seem excited to experience Faye's story. Hyped up as an even better fighter than Kratos himself in the Norse games, Faye's ability to juggle enemies in the air and cast magic should keep battles consistently fun. Beyond just the game, the new setting of Everywhen, which is an afterlife for all the gods from all the different mythologies should allow for lots of interesting scenery and lore. It can also be home to a bunch of references, and one of those nods is to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 seems to be a given.
On the surface, there's nothing connecting Santa Monica's action series to Sandfall's turn-based RPG; the series' worlds play by very different rules, and Clair Obscur is not exclusive to PlayStation. That obviously doesn't mean that Santa Monica can't just refer to one of the best games released in the last decade in God of War Laufey if it wants to — after all, how many games have tributes to Dark souls even though you offer games that are completely different from a soul-like? Still, it rules out a reference in a PlayStation-filled collector's category that Ragnaröks poems. Fortunately, there is a less obvious connection between the two games that bolsters the chances of the nod Expedition 33 in Faye's upcoming interquel: Charlie Cox's role as Gustave.

Even Domino's Pizza casts a shadow on God of War Laufey
A strange backlash to God of War Laufey's new protagonist reaches new heights when, of all things, a pizza company criticizes the game.
Daredevil gives Deborah Ann Woll and Charlie Cox an unbreakable bond
While Charlie Cox himself apparently played down his contributions to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33that doesn't change how great he was at playing Gustave and how he helped elevate the character to become a true fan favorite. For gamers, it's seen as his best role, although fans of the Marvel universe and quality television will probably have another character in that position: Matt Murdock, AKA Daredevil. Cox has been and continues to be a perfect fit for the Man Without Fear, stealing every scene he's in, whether he's portraying Matt's smooth-talking lawyer side or the violent vigilante protecting Hell's Kitchen. In both Netflix Daredevil and the revival of Disney+ Born againhe is joined by a whole cast of supporting characters, one of whom is Karen Page.

While Karen received flak in the early seasons for taking up too much screen time from the show's titular hero, her character improved drastically over time and shined as brightly as many other characters from Season 3 onward. Karen has been an on-again, off-again romantic interest for Matt (not to mention her interesting dynamic with Jon Bernthal's Punisher), so Marvel fans have seen a lot of her over the past decade. She has become a recognizable character in her own right and is growing among fans in part due to the top-notch acting from Deborah Ann Woll: AKA, Faye. Deborah Ann Woll and Charlie Cox have been staples of Daredevil for years, a critically acclaimed series currently filming its sixth season. And now they're both main characters in massive video games, a pairing Santa Monica could lean on for a fun little Easter egg.
Charlie Cox is so attached to the role of Daredevil and has spent so much time playing the blind lawyer that he has previously mentioned fumbling auditions because he forgets to use his eyes.
God of Wars Clair Obscur Crossover doesn't have to be big to be fun
To be clear, no one is saying that Gustave himself has to appear in Everywhen. Instead Clair Obscur tribute can come in a much more subtle way. Maybe Charlie Cox plays a small part in God of War Laufey so he can share a small scene with his longtime co-star in her latest project. The character could be a tinkerer, have a name similar to Gustave, or lack an arm, creating some sort of parallel to Cox's previous role. He could even look like a devil, making the connection glaringly obvious, and the moment would no doubt serve as a fan-favorite easter egg for anyone familiar with Faye's acting career.
Alternatively, if Charlie Cox can't find time to record a cameo for God of War Laufeythen there are other ways to tip your hat to Gustave. Perhaps Faye or one of her allies could utter one of his iconic lines – “for those who come after” is the obvious choice, although the cube character Phranque saying he's “preparing his usefulness for tomorrow” would also be fitting. A book similar to Gustave's diary hidden somewhere in the world can also work; maybe a quote is scrawled on the page, or even the number 33. In the end, it doesn't matter how the reference happens, it would just be awesome if it did. Having two main characters from the same beloved TV show go on to star in some giant video games (also released in such close proximity to each other) is a rare occurrence, and one that makes sense to honor in some way.
