Normally priced at $9.99, Mr. Brocco & Co is a retro-style 2D platformer that mixes classic arcade gameplay with a math-themed premise, where there's an “edutainment” element that's supposed to be about healthy eating. Players step into Mr. Broccoli or Super Asparagus shoes to explore the world, participate in side-scrolling games and fight through enemies based on junk food. Developer VICTORIA Games claims old-school platformers as the classic Super Mario games as inspiration, and while it's somewhat obvious, there's more of a light, comical cartoon to it.

Over on Steam, Mr. Brocco & Co has a 90% positive rating (from 21 reviews). A lot of people seem to like the art and gameplay, but it's not without its critics. The experience is dragged down by how quickly it becomes repetitive, how limited it is mechanically, and how short it is overall. Many also think that the educational aspect is weak, even for children. At a price of $10, it makes sense, but thanks to the Indie Gala, players can pick it up for free right now. A simple retro-inspired platformer for the price of free is still a deal not to be missed.
