Overwatch players can earn bonus XP and loot boxes this weekend

Monitoring has officially started a new Junkrat's Loot Hunt event with double Battle Pass XP wins from now until May 12th. This double weekend event should provide Monitoring players plenty of reasons to log in ahead of the mid-Season 2 update, which should arrive soon after.

Junkrat's Loot Hunt is a filler event that Monitoring returns periodically to add a little extra incentive to log in during downtime. By playing games during the event, fans can earn up to nine free Loot Boxes. When the event first took place in June 2025, it featured daily milestones where you had to play a certain number of games each day to earn your Loot Boxes, but that was changed in later iterations to allow progress to continue over the weekend.

Overwatch Double XP Junkrat's Loot Hunt May 8-12

Now, Junkrat's Loot Hunt is back again to take players through the first half of Reign of Talon Season 2. From now until May 12, fans can earn up to nine free Loot Boxes simply by playing games. But this iteration has an exciting twist: during the event, Battle Pass XP gains from matches will also be doubled, making the event twice as lucrative.

Match progress on Junkrat's Loot Hunt uses the gated progression system seen in other recent events including Monitoring x Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred crossover. Each Loot Box is earned after five matches, with Stadium matches and victories counting for double progress. That said, progress on the next Loot Box will not unlock until the last one is earned. If a player has four out of five required games against a Loot Box, extra progress will not carry over to the next Loot Box challenge if they win their game.

Meanwhile, the XP boost applies specifically to Battle Pass XP Monitoring fans earn by completing matches. Completing a match typically yields between 700 and 1,000 Battle Pass XP, with additional payouts for victories and longer games. Playing in a group gives an extra 20% boost, while queuing for in-demand roles gives 100 to 500 extra XP. All of this is multiplied by the double XP boost, meaning players who take advantage of all these bonuses can easily earn more than 2,000 Battle Pass XP for a victorious match.

This double whammy event arrives at the perfect time. Monitoring Reign of Talon Season 2 started on April 15th and runs until June 16th, which means that the mid-season update will most likely happen on May 12th, right when Junkrat's Loot Hunt ends. While fans don't know everything that's coming in this update, Jetpack Cat is coming to Stadium and Ra Ana, the support hero's second Mythic skin, will be added to the store. On top of that, a new batch of balance tweaks will be implemented, likely including some more tweaking for Sierra, the deadly DPS hero added Monitoring this season.

With Season 3 just over a month away, it won't be long before fans start seeing hints of what else is to come Monitor soonincluding the next hero. Monitoring leaks suggest that they will be a Damage hero similar to Cassidy, so players will have to wait and see how accurate these rumors are when the character is officially revealed.
