Noob Saibot opens the door for a character's return in MK2

Noob Saibot's role in Mortal Kombat 1s Khaos Reigns expansion may have cleared the way for another fighter to make the next roster. Khaos Reigns played two roles too Mortal Kombat 1those who expand the list and push a branch of new era history forward. In the process, it ended up making a great case for a former fighter's return. There's a lot that can change between two games, and Mortal Kombats new era still has many possibilities. With that in mind, recent events seem to cloud a fighter's chances.

Even if Mortal Kombat 1's Khaos Reigns lacked some characters that many fans expected, it still did its job to help the game grow. The three guest characters will be released on a staggered schedule, similar to the first wave of DLC. But the new versions of Noob Saibot, Cyrax and Sektor all came out at once. It's an appropriate move, given their relevance in Khaos Reign's story. Their entrance marks a remarkable change in the status quo before Mortal Kombat 2and the next Mortal Kombat will have a new element to juggle with in the form of the new Lin Kuei.

Mortal Kombat 1's Kombat Pack 2 Scream leaves little room in a sequel for Slasher Villains

Mortal Kombat is no stranger to adding iconic horror guest characters, but the latest addition could be one of the last the studio can add.

Frost is a prime candidate to join the roster of the next Mortal Kombat

Sub-Zero becomes Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns

Similar to his former counterpart, Mortal Kombat 1s version of Bi-Han discards the title Sub-Zero over the course of Khaos Reigns. After his encounter with Titan Havik, he was transformed into Noob Saibot. In addition to his new name, he also changes his moveset. His transformation cost him the ice powers he wielded as Sub-Zero. In their place, he now has dark-themed abilities, such as creating shadow clones and portals. This is an effective way to show the difference between Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot and also leaves Mortal Kombat 2s list seemingly lacks the archetype that Sub-Zero provides.

Frost could be Mortal Kombat 2's Resident Ice-Wielder

Although players probably won't see

Mortal Kombat 1
's Sub-Zero appears in that form in the sequel, that doesn't mean there won't be an ice ninja on the roster—much less any sort of reverse or reimagined Sub-Zero at all, given how popular and ubiquitous that character is is.

That said, Frost has appeared in both previous timelines and, as her name suggests, is also a ninja who uses cryomancy in battle. Also, while she only appears as a Kameo fighter in MK1a few lines of pre-fight banter hint at her existence in the new era. This alone already gives her a chance to appear later. Now that Sub-Zero has lost his ice powers, suddenly there is a spot on the roster that Frost can easily take.

Frost's story can be remixed in the new era of Mortal Kombat

Just being an ice ninja isn't Frost's only reason for returning. Frost's appearances in Mortal Kombat always saw her as an apprentice to Sub-Zero gone rogue. With so many characters in the new era being reimagined, the same could be true for Frost. Although she remains a student of Sub-Zero, Bi-Han being evil has a potential dynamic change. She could be an ambitious apprentice as previously hinted at, become an independent villain, or even end up siding with the heroes after her rebellion in the new era.

Bi-Han's transformation shook up the dynamics of Mortal Kombats new era and Frost is a character who Mortal Kombat 1s sequel may appear as a result. Not only would she ensure that players who like to freeze their enemies can have a go-to in the playlist, but she could also be an interesting addition to the Lin Kuei's new dynamic. After Mortal Kombat 1there will certainly be some additions to the list.
