A Nintendo Switch 2 the owner is sharing his woes in hopes of warning other players after what appeared to be a legitimate cartridge ended up breaking the console. While the Nintendo Switch 2 game was purchased from a site that should normally sell reputable games, it seems this player got anything but that.
For almost as long as gaming systems have existed, counterfeit game cartridges and discs have appeared alongside them. In some cases, these fakes are just a waste of time and money, but players may want to be extra careful to double-check any game they buy to make sure they're not getting a much bigger problem than a dud cartridge.

The rumor: Nintendo Switch 2 is getting critically acclaimed RPG
A new rumor claims that Nintendo Switch 2 users will have a new version of a well-regarded RPG to look forward to sometime in the near future.
Fake Pragmata Cartridge Breaks Nintendo Switch 2
On Resetera, a player named jokkir explained that they bought a copy of the new Capcom game Pragmatics from Amazon and ended up with a Switch 2 that can no longer read game cartridges. According to jokkir, they found the cartridge for sale in the Amazon Resale category, formerly known as Amazon Warehouse, which often sells items at a lower cost. These items are usually returned or used and sold at a lower price as a result. Jokkir thought they got a good deal, since the game cost $56CAD instead of $80CAD, but when they inserted the cartridge into their system, it didn't work. When they tried to eject the cartridge it got stuck and they had to pry it out of the Switch 2.

Upon closer inspection, jockeys discovered that the cartridge was a hoax. At first they thought the pins were stuck in their bracket, but once they examined it closely they discovered there were no pins to begin with. The cartridge was just a plastic shell with no real “gut” inside. As a result, the Nintendo Switch 2 now no longer reads real game cartridges. Any cartridges in their possession are now unusable, and while Amazon may refund the purchase of the fake cartridge, it is highly unlikely that it will take responsibility for the damaged console.
Other gamers have expressed sympathy over the situation, with many saying that from now on they will carefully examine any new Switch cartridges they pick up before trying to use them. Others have warned that issues like these can happen with any type of retailer, with some reporting that they've bought games from Amazon Warehouse in the past that didn't appear to have been inspected before being put back on sale.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time a gamer has shared that they accidentally damaged the cartridge port of their Nintendo Switch 2. Last year, shortly after the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, a gamer decided to customize a copy of Donkey Kong Banana by spray painting it yellow. The paint caused the cartridge to stick once it was inserted, and when he tried to pry it out, the cartridge burst, leaving part of it stuck in the port. While Nintendo Switch 2 systems with a damaged cartridge port can still function normally with digital games, losing the ability to read cartridges is extremely unfortunate, especially if one has already purchased many physical titles.
