Mega Man 2 was made playable on collectible clock

While Doom is usually the go-to game when it comes to running something on absurd objects, from vape pens to cardboard boxes, it seems the iconic “boomer shooter” has some competition in the form of Mega Man 2 and a digital watch company.

That's because My Play Watch, a company dedicated to making watches that not only play classic games but are fully functional for other tasks, has revealed that a Mega Man 2 watch will be its next big release, with the collectible targeting a June release.

“Built in collaboration with Capcom, this standalone digital game watch features a remastered version of Mega Man 2 with authentic sprites, environments, enemies and music from the original game, adapted to a fast, accessible format designed for wrist-based play,” the site's website notes.

The product, which is available for pre-order through GameStop, costs $79.99.

Right now you might be wondering, “How the hell do you play Mega Man 2 on your wrist?”

Well, I'm glad you asked because it's a lot easier than it sounds.

It's Mega Man 2 Simplified

Being a wearable watch, the gameplay has been simplified to where Mega Man automatically goes through each step. Players then navigate jumps and perils by touching the dial. The same goes for firing the Mega Buster, with quick taps serving the same function as spamming the controller.

It promises three game modes, from classic to arcade mode, and in addition to being able to run the classic title, it will actually work as a normal watch.

“The watch includes timing and exercise tracking, allowing users to monitor steps, heart rate and calories throughout the day,” a description reads.

The timing element has themed wallpapers, character screens and pixel art.

In addition to doing all that, which is already quite a lot, the watch is also a gigantic collector's item. The GameStop bundle also gets you two collectible watchbands, a collectible box, a bonus watchband, and even a themed stand.

“With bold Mega Man-inspired colors, pixel art graphics and interchangeable bands, the watch is designed to be worn, played and collected,” the product clearly states.

Overall, it's a pretty neat collectible that really bucks the trend of figurines, reproductions, and art books. It's not the first watch from My Play Watch either, as the company also has an Atari, Space Invaders and Tetris-themed collectibles, all offering many of the same features and functions as the Mega Man watch.

Normally, I'd be pretty annoyed that Mega Man would be part of yet another collectible instead of a solo adventure, but with Dual Override coming out next year, bring all the collectibles you want, Capcom.
