A new feature has been added Analogue 3Dwhich finally allows users to create storage permissions for their games. Analogue 3D is a retro gaming system that allows users to play their old N64 cartridges in 4K. Not only is the system compatible with old cartridges, but it can also work with the original controllers, as well as N64 peripherals such as the Rumble Pak and Controller Pak.
Analogue 3D was delayed several times but was finally released in 2025. Reception of the system has been largely positive, in common with many of the company's other products. However, Analogue has taken some time to deliver on some of the features that were first announced, leaving fans to wait for the best possible N64 experience.

The 25 Rarest N64 Games (And How Much They're Worth)
The rarest Nintendo 64 games can set collectors back thousands of dollars, and here are the most expensive N64 titles of 2026.
Analog 3D finally offers Save States
After updating the system software to 3DOS v1.3.0, analog 3D systems will now have the memory function unlocked. The feature has two important benefits: users can now save their game progress at any time, and they can also preserve any save data that is at risk of being lost due to the cartridge's built-in battery running out. This is a very real problem when it comes to older games, because those batteries were only built to last so long. If players have data that really means a lot to them, it can now be preserved on the system.

The dedicated Nintendo Classics app on Switch has many old N64 games playable, but some titles on the app have compromises from the original versions. For example Pokemon Stadium Games do not allow players to transfer Pokemon. That was the central hook of Stadium games in the first place, and the feature still works on Analogue 3D, provided users have a Game Boy game and Transfer Pak. Even if owners only have their old copy of Pokemon Stadiumthe save state feature ensures that players do not lose their progress on the Gym Leader Castle, or anything else they accomplished in the original game.
The N64 hosted a large library of games, including classics such as Ocarina of time, GoldenEye 007and Super Mario 64. All of these games are playable via Nintendo Switch Online, but there are many others that will likely never be released on the subscription service. In fact, licensing issues often make it difficult for older games to get a second release. The N64 had a lot of high quality licensed games, and Nintendo would have to jump through some expensive hoops to get them to the Switch. Analogue 3D is a good option for those who want to experience the full depth of the system.

After Analogue 3D's latest update, it looks like the system could be an even bigger draw for users than it was before. The addition of rescue modes brings the system more in line with other products from the company, including the extremely popular analog pocket. For those who have been waiting to buy an analog 3D, this could be the perfect excuse to finally make a purchase.
