Jayce, Brilliant Inventor (Blue Jayce)

TheGamer has been given the opportunity to kick off Riftbound: Vendetta's preview season with the reveal of one of the set's champion unit cards: Jayce, Brilliant Inventor.

We know from previous leaks that Jayce is a Mind/Body legend (a unique combination), and the following reveal concerns Jayce's Mind (Blue) master unit card. The card (modeled on Jayce's appearance in Arcane) also has an alternate version, which is a close-up of his Zenith Games skin from League of Legends.

The man of progress

Jayce, brilliant inventor from Riftbound.

Jayce, Brilliant Inventor is a 6 Energy + 1 Blue Power card that reads: “When you play me, or the first time you play a non-token switch each turn, you can prepare something besides me that runs out.”

Although relatively expensive, the ability to read something by playing Jayce or a switch is quite versatile. You can prepare an exhausted unit, or powerful equipment like Vanguard Armory (in non-Jayce blue decks, since he's blue/orange).

I feel like there are more obvious combos/uses of this card waiting to be revealed in Vendetta. Jayce seems to be designed around the fact that equipment stays on the board indefinitely – expect to see combos involving tapping and prepping to maximize value in Jayce decks.

Of course, we also got a Jayce champion unit in Spiritforged, which will also be eligible to be used as a chosen champion in a Jayce deck. This card, Jayce, Man of Progress, allows you to kill one of your switches to play a bigger switch. It is most often used in control Lux decks to cheat out Vanguard Armory during an early turn.

Both the Body (Orange) version of Jayce and his champion legend have yet to be revealed, but a leak of the former suggests that you'll be able to choose one of three bonus effects when the card becomes ready, which of course would synergize with Jayce, Brilliant Inventor.

The Master Legend card text is sure to be the key to unlocking the power of Jayce's master units, but we won't know the details of those interactions until the card is revealed.

Vendetta's preview season will continue until July 18th, with the worldwide release on July 31st.
