It's the end of an era too PlayStation 4as Sony's hugely popular eighth generation home console misses out on one of the biggest releases of the year. Sony released the PlayStation 4 in 2013 to great fanfare, and the console would go on to build an incredible library of top-notch exclusive games and multi-platform releases. There are still millions of gamers around the world who play the PS4 as their primary console, but after 13 years of support, it's clear that the console is finally coming to an end.
The first sign of the PS4's demise came last year when Sony announced that it would stop making the console a focus when it comes to the PlayStation Plus game lineup. This change took effect this past January, but, perhaps coincidentally, there have still been new PS Plus games for PS4 players to add to their digital libraries or play through the Extra/Premium range.

6 PlayStation games will be shut down on June 1st
A handful of digital adventures are currently headed for a permanent exit on the PlayStation Store as the pre-summer season officially kicks off.
Call of Duty will not be on PS4 this year
But now it's been another blow to the PlayStation 4. Xbox recently confirmed it Call of Duty is skipping eighth-generation consoles this year, which is the first time a new one Cod has not been released for PS4 since the console launched. This is good news for Call of Duty fans eager for the franchise to leave behind outdated hardware and fully embrace the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but it could be a heartbreaking revelation for those still playing on PS4. For the first time in 13 years, you'll need a powerful PC, a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X/S console to play the latest Call of Duty as no PS4 version will be offered in any capacity.

Based on the leaks and rumors surrounding the game, it seems like this year's Call of Duty will be particularly exciting. Last year's Call of Duty was one of the worst performers to date, but rumor has it that the 2026 game will see Infinity Ward back at the helm to make Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. A Modern Warfare 4 not held back by the PS4 and Xbox One could potentially be the shot in the arm the blockbuster first-person shooter franchise needs to get back on top, but time will tell how it all pans out.
In the meantime, PS4 players who still haven't upgraded should consider doing so sooner rather than later. The PS5 price hikes are already in effect, meaning those upgrading today will pay more than someone did six years ago, but there's always a chance the price could increase again. Of course, it's also possible that PS5 console prices will eventually drop as well, but with the memory crisis and other global issues playing a role, it's hard to say when that will be. Chances are good that it won't happen before the new one Call of Duty game release this year.

There will still be some new games released on PS4 as well Call of Duty is finally leaving the console behind, but expect the titles to become fewer and further between going forward. In some ways, it's sad to see support for the PS4 dwindle, but there's no denying that the console had an incredible run.
