Insomniac Venom game gets confusing update

The fate of Married from Insomniac Games is currently in question, as conflicting reports circulate about the status of the PlayStation game. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was released on PS5 in 2023 by developer Insomniac Games. The story offered a retelling of Married story originating in Spider-Man series, with Peter Parker originally wearing the Symbiote costume.

Shortly after Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was released, a ransomware attack leaked a Married PS5 games from Insomniac. The game was supposed to be released in 2025, but its existence has never been officially confirmed. That year came and went without any sort of announcement, so there's been a lot of concern about the status of the project, and whether it's still in development at the PlayStation-owned studio.

Has The Venom Spin-Off Game Been Cancelled?

In an appearance on the Love it Film podcast, Miles Morales voice actor Nadji Jeter claimed that a Married spin-off was originally in the works from Insomniac Games. However, it was apparently canceled following the death of Venom voice actor Tony Todd in 2024. News of the cancellation spread to the ResetEra forums, where Bloomberg's Jason Schreier simply stated that “this is not true.”

IN Marvel's Spider-Man 2Peter Parker and Harry Osborn both serve as hosts for the Venom Symbiote. Insomniacs Married Eddie Brock, the host most often associated with the Symbiote, is rumored to star. Venom originally started out as a villain in Spider-Man comics, but the character's popularity resulted in him becoming an anti-hero instead. Venom and Spider-Man would eventually bury the hatchet, with the two often working together against Carnage, a symbiote paired with serial killer Cletus Kasady. Carnage hasn't appeared in Insomniac's universe yet, but Cletus Kasady had a role in it Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Fans have since speculated that Carnage will be the main villain in Married game.

Many games are quietly canceled before they are announced, and it's possible that's exactly what happened with this one Married. It's also possible that Insomniac is just busy with their next game; Marvel's Wolverine will be released on September 15th for PS5. When that game comes out later this year, there's a good chance Insomniac will reveal what it has to offer next. If Insomniac announces Marvel's Spider-Man 3It probably means that Married the game was indeed canceled, or at least pushed much further down the line.

If Married released or not, Marvel fans should have a lot to look forward to from Insomniac. The studio is clearly not done with Spider-Man series, one way or another. The games have sold incredibly well for the PlayStation, and the end of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 creating major conflicts and a potential new playable character. On top of that, Marvel's Wolverine also seems to set up bigger things for the X-Men. For now, fans will just have to wait patiently to see what is announced within the next year or so. With any luck, Insomniac won't keep fans waiting too much longer for their next spider-themed game.
