As we've explored with many guides, there are multiple items and mechanics in it Vampire Crawlers. You can change how you play cards, your starting stats, create overwhelming builds with certain characters, and more. One of the most important things that will help you in your runs are Gems.
Gems can be found in several ways, and with the dozens and dozens of options you'll unlock, it's important to get the basics right from the start. In this guide, we'll quickly explain how gems work, why they're so important, and where you can find them in Vampire Crawlers.
How gems work
Gems are unique items that add boosts and perks to your cards. When you pick up a gem, you'll see a window with all of them card in your deck that has a free slot. Add the gem to it, and every time you play that card, you'll activate the gem's effect.
There are over 50 gems in the gameand you have to unlock them before you can find them in your runs. Some of the gems include:
- Double and triple damage: They do what their name says.
- Copy: The card is copied when it is used.
- Armor: Adds armor to your character.
- Drag: You draw an extra card.
- Simple combination: The card gets the combo multiplier benefit regardless of the mana ascension rule – but you lose the combo.
- Happiness: Your turn stat increases.
- Refund: Your card does not spend Mana when it is used.
As you can see, there are jewels that will increase your stats (mostly just for the encounter, not the entire run), others that will activate concrete effects in runs, and some that will play with your Mana consumption.

It is worth saying that, unlike your cards, your gems are not affected by the combo multiplier. A gem that gives you 20 percent luck will always give you the same amount.
How to find gems
You can find gems in one of three ways:
- Open regular or boss chests has the chance to create a gem.
- Open purple locked chestswhich you need to open by sacrificing cards of the same color as the lock.
- Level up and get a gem.
If you have more luck (stat), your chances of getting four rewards increase instead of three; therefore more chances for Gems.
