When the Greymanes start growing back Crimson DesertBustling Hill enters as the 45th main part of Chapter 3's “Pioneer Sub-Chapter”. While you'll only have two faction members at the Greymane camp to use at first, this mission is the first time the game gives you the reins of the camp mission system.
This walkthrough guide will walk you through every step of the Bustling Hill quest, from accessing the quest menu to while away the hours while your comrades do the heavy lifting.
How to start Expansion Bustling Hill Camp
In Crimson Desert, Bustling Hill starts automatically when you finish read the letter from the dragon head on Howling Hill during the previous quest, “A Gentle Touch”. Your goal is to send Greymane members to complete the Howling Hill Camp Expansion mission, Marius' plan to expand the camp's capacity while Kliff manages the whole thing.
The first step is to open your map and navigate to the Howling Hill camp. Zoom in and hover over the camp until the Howling Hill panel appears on the left side of the screen. When the prompt appears at the bottom of the map, use Triangle/Y (or double-click on PC) to open the camp information screen.
The 'Details' command is only registered when you are hovers well over the campsite — you know it's worked when the map icon for Howling Hill appears slightly raised. If nothing happens, adjust the cursor position slightly and try again.
After a short transition zooming into the camp, a new interface will appear with four tabs in the upper left corner. Use R1/RB to navigate to the Quests tab, where you'll find “Howling Hill Camp Expansion” listed as the only quest available.
Crimson Desert: Complete Guide to Greymane Camp Management
For a thriving base, here's everything you need to manage your Greymane Camp in the Crimson Desert and keep Howling Hill running at full capacity.
Choosing and sending out your comrades
Select Howling Hill Camp Expansion to see all mission details. This quest requires exactly two companions, which works well considering that Luke and Ronald are currently your only Freewords.
Before sending blindly, take a moment to look at each comrade's listed skills. Luke has the construction abilitywhich directly increases the efficiency of missions like this. Always match companions with mission types where possible; it makes a noticeable difference to the results.
With your companions selected, dispatch them by pressing F on the keyboard, or Square/X on the controller. The mission then runs in the background while you continue playing.
Waiting for the Timer
Howling Hill Camp Expansion takes 18 in-game hours to complete. A full day in-game equates to roughly two hours of real-world playtime, so this isn't an instant turnaround.
You have a few options to make the time pass faster:
- Rest at camp: Go to bed in your tent on Howling Hill and sleep to skip up to 12 hours of the game at once.
- Rest by a fire: Any campfire in the world serves as an alternative resting place if you are away from camp.
- Play normally: The quest runs in the background regardless, so venturing out to do side quests, shopping in Hernand, or exploring the surrounding area is a perfect way to pass the time.
The maximum rest time is limited to 12 hours, so a single sleep is not enough to complete the mission on its own. You must either rest twice or pair a rest with some active play to cover the remaining hours.
When the timer is up, you will get a pop-up message confirming that the mission has been completedand your comrades are back at camp. Return to Howling Hill to see the expansion in action.
How to send quests forward
Completing Bustling Hill formally unlocks Crimson Desert's quest delivery system, allowing you to send companions on a growing list of quests to earn faction experience, money, and materials.
There are two ways to handle this going forward: via the map, and Ross at the Greymane camp.
Via the map
The same process you used here works anywhere in Pywel. Open the map, hover over a location and use the “Inspect” command to browse the area's available missions. This is the most useful method when you're out exploring and want to check out what's on offer nearby.
Via Ross at the camp
Once you're back at Greymane's base, look for Ross on the west side of the main road. He's the Base Camp Dispatch Coordinator, and talking to him will give you access to the full list of all available missions in a single menu. This is much faster than checking locations one by one when you just want to send efficiently.
For ongoing camp development, keep an eye on quests linked to the Grounds of the Sunrise quest specifically. These have the biggest impact on your camp's development over the course of the game.
