In this guide, we'll take a look at how to manage your vampire sim's needs in The Sims 4. This will include how they differ from the typical sim, as well as how you can satisfy those needs. Remember that to get a vampire sim you need the Vampires game pack.

How is Vampire Sims different?

A vampire needs zooming in.

A vampire sim has some traits in common with a typical human, but there are some main differences. Firstly, your vampire will no longer use the bathroom! Toilets are not used by vampires, so you don't have to worry about adding one to a vampire house.

In addition to this, vampires do not have the same energy or hunger bar. Instead, Hunger has been replaced by Thirst, and Energy has been replaced by Vampire Energy.

The Vampire Energy meter is at the top of the screen, takes up the entire section in a dark purple color. As such, it is safe to say that this is one of the most important needs.

Vampires still have needs Hygiene, social and fun!

What drains vampire energy?

Vampire Energy is the source of your vampire's powers. This will drain very slowly, but most of the time you will consume this energy when you use a Vampire Power. This includes things like discover personalities, turn into a bat or charm others.

The other big thing that drains Vampire Energy is to be in the sun. This is of course bad. Vampires begin to burn when exposed to the sun; when left out too long they will lose energy and if left out too long, they will eventually die.

How do vampires sleep?

Vampire Energy is restored by either sleep or meditate. But instead of sleeping in a bed, Vampire Sims will have to sleep in a coffin. In build/buy mode you will be able to find a few chest types to choose from. This acts as a bed for your sim; your Sims can even Woohoo in one.

If you need a quick burst of Vampire Energy, your vampire sim can also use the Dark Meditation ability. This will make them meditate for a little while, which restores some energy. This isn't the best way to completely fill your vampire Sim's energy bar, though it works in a jiffy.

How to quench vampire thirst

To fulfill their thirst, vampires must drink plasma. This can be found from three different sources; Plasma Fruit, Plasma Packets and normal human sims. One of these is a little more evil than the others, but let's go through all three.

Drinks from plasma packs

Plasma packs are essentially small artificial blood packets that a Sim can drink from to avoid drinking from humans. These packs can be purchased from a computer if your sim is at least level three in the Vampire Lore skill.

Vampires can make their own plasma packs from either fish or frogs once Vampire Lore level four has been reached.

Drinks From Plasmafruit

A sim that harvests wild plasma fruit from trees.

Plasma fruit is the best way to restore thirst if your vampire sim has a green thumb. Vampires can drink the plasma directly from these fruits, which satisfies only a little of the thirst. Just one won't get the job done but fortunately swimming can drink several in a row to satisfy their thirst.

You can find a plasma fruit tree in Forgotten Hollow; the tree grows on a slope leading up to a dead tree. This tree is public, so you can simply go for it and reap the rewards.

At level eight of the Vampire Lore skill, you can buy plasma fruit seeds to plant yourself. This is great if your Sim doesn't live in Forgotten Hollow, or if you just want more trees.

Drinks from normal sims

A vampire sim that causes hallucinations.

Finally, your vampire can swim drink from normal people. There are a few different ways to do this. First, you can ask nicely! About your vampire has a good relationship with the other normal sim, then they might politely ask for a drink.

If there is no relationship between the sim and your vampire, so can they force the sim to give them plasma. You can do this by drinking either a small or large amount of plasma. Drinking a large amount of plasma from another sim is one good way to quench your thirst.

What happens if a sim is too thirsty?

This is not ideal; if a sim is too thirsty their instincts will take over. When this happens, vampire Sims will be harder to control. They might attack sims randomly and drain their plasma when this happens. If you're going for an evil vampire vibe, this should be fine, though it can destroy relationships.

While the Vampire Energy bar is visually larger, the Thirst requirement is quite important. Thirst seems to control vampires; when it gets too low, all other needs will essentially be overridden. Low thirst can produce the following three moods.

  • Need to feed
  • Dry
  • Irresistible thirst

When irresistible thirst is reached, they will start attacking.
