Here's what you need to enable the game transcoding feature on your Steam deck:

  1. Turn on your Steam deck.
  2. Press the Steam button.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Scroll down to Game Recording.
  5. Choose between Record manually or Record in the background.

On the back, you can also access the Game Recording menu while playing any game by following these steps:

  1. Play your choice.
  2. During your gameplay, press the Steam button.
  3. In the game recording, you can view shortcuts, view recordings and adjust recording settings.

You can also access the Game Transcoding feature via the quick access menu under the Quick Settings tab.

If you choose Record Manually, press Steam Button + A to start recording. However, if you select Record in the background, Steam will automatically start recording as soon as you start playing a game. However, the Steam Deck will only save the last 120 minutes of your game recording for you to review or save for later viewing.

You can make several changes in the Game Recording menu. Here you can change the following settings:

  • Recording quality;
  • Maximum frame rate;
  • Maximum video height;
  • Enable/disable audio recording;
  • Select Audio source and more.

If the game recording feature is not available on your Steam deck, there is a possibility that it is not updated. To update your Steam deck, follow these simple steps:

  1. Press the Steam button.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select Check for updates.
  5. Install the pending update.
