How the franchise has grown since Fallout: New Vegas was released

There are a handful of gaming franchises that have managed to stand the test of time, and Fall-out is one of the most notable among the list. Since the first chapter was launched in the late 90s, Fall-out has evolved in some pretty drastic ways, and with hopes that another main chapter is in the pipeline, many players (myself included) have gone back to some of their favorite entries to continue getting a heavy dose of post-apocalyptic wasteland survival.

When Bethesda took control of the franchise, series turned into a first-person experience with Fallout 3. The developer eventually commissioned Obsidian Entertainment to make Fallout: New Vegaswhich marked another turning point for the adventure-filled RPG. Like a diehard Fall-out heck, there's something I love about every episode, but like many others, New Vegas is a go-to item. Then New Vegas, Fall-out has reached new heights of popularity, paving the way for the series to become even more influential.

In 15 years ago New Vegas released, Bethesda has produced three different games that have experimented with the franchise's formula. Of course, as a main follow-up, Fallout 4 is the more robust option in terms of games and content. As the sole survivor, you're tasked with rising through the ranks in the harsh wasteland of the Commonwealth while searching for the protagonist's long-lost son, Shaun. With the choice of a voiced protagonist and a story that remains a divisive topic, some believe so Fallout 4 did not hit the same highs as Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Despite that, it has managed to become an incredibly popular game.

Fallout Shelter is a unique entry in the series, as it is a free-to-play mobile game that was eventually released for PC and console in the years following its release. IN Fallout Shelterbase management is key, as players have control over a vault and its citizens. With its cartoony art style and more light-hearted approach to the franchise, Fallout Shelter has proven to be a fun way to experience Fall-out in a new light.

Fallout 76 is the latest game in the series, and while it's been a great addition to the franchise, it definitely wasn't a smooth start for the multiplayer counterpart. When Fallout 76 launched back in 2018, it seemed almost doomed from the start. Constant bugs, crashes and a general lack of content plagued Fallout 76but over the years it has become one of the most interesting Fall-out offers. It managed to rise from the ashes after its disastrous launch and is now filled with great content. This year in particular has been one of the strongest. The range of Fall-out franchise has gone beyond video games as well. Post New Vegasthere have actually been far more table deals than video game installments, and while not all players enjoy a table experience, those who do have a lot to celebrate when it comes to viewing Fall-out the universe in a new light. Fallout: The Board Game provides an easier board game experience, while Fallout: The Role Playing Game can help scratch that RPG itch in a fresh way. For miniatures-based wargaming, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare and Fallout Factions are worth a dive, while Magic: The Gatherings crossover with the series covers the card game crowd.

Amazon's Hit Fallout series is ready to embrace New Vegas with open arms

When it was announced that Amazon would make a Fall-out show, it was a mixture of both excitement and caution. Video game adaptations are definitely not easy to pull off. Between live-action adaptations that Borderlands film and the unfortunate Halo series, there are several new examples of how video games don't always translate to film or television. thankfully, Fall-out haven't had this problem, at least so far.

After the first season premiered, Fall-out franchise as a whole got a huge boost. Both old and new fans of the series flocked to the games, and the arrival of Season 2 is sure to be even more exciting for New Vegas lovers, as it will mark the first time the location has been revisited since the game's launch. While some are still hoping for one New Vegas remaster, Season 2 of the series will likely be the closest fans will get to it for the foreseeable future.

Where is the Fallout franchise going next?

This is the biggest question of all. A New Vegas remasters or even a sequel are unfortunately unlikely at this point, but at least it's known that Bethesda has plans for Fallout 5 on the road. When that post arrives, however, is a big mystery. It could be years before Bethesda even officially announces Fallout 5let alone release it. The Elder Scrolls 6 fans are currently in their seventh year of waiting with no clear end in sight. When Bethesda ticks it off their to-do list, many expect Fallout 5 to be in the pipeline next, but so far there's no way of knowing what's in store for the mainline games. Thankfully, at least there's a strong TV series and an ever-evolving alternative with it Fallout 76and that will hopefully be enough to hold fans over until Fallout 5 finally becoming a reality.
