A former Rockstar producer who worked on Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption has admitted he “can only imagine” how big GTA 6 will be.
As anyone who's happily fed either GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2 over the past two console generations knows, Rockstar's releases tend to make up for their long development by being absolutely massive games with tons to see and do. In fact, both of Rockstar's last releases are still being picked apart to this day.
Considering how long GTA 6 has been in development now, it makes everyone wonder how big it will actually be. However, it turns out that it's not just GTA fans who want to know the answer, as even a former Rockstar Games developer has suggested that he has no idea what the studio has cooked up.
Former Rockstar producer 'Can Only Imagine' how big GTA 6 will be
Considering they worked on GTA 5, that's saying a lot
As pointed out by GamesRadar+, former Rockstar producer John Ricchio, who worked on games like GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne, recently chatted with YouTuber KiwiTalkz about his time with the studio. At one point, Ricchio was asked if he would like to be a part of GTA 6's launch given all the hype surrounding it.
In response, Ricchio pointed out that every time Rockstar makes a new GTA, it's “ridiculously bigger than before”. The former producer then says that he “can only imagine” how big GTA 6 will be, and that it would be “monstrous” if it wasn't likely to be so detailed. From what we've seen so far, he's almost certainly right.
Ricchio goes on to say that each game being bigger than the last has become an “expectation” for Rockstar's releases, with GTA 5 eclipsing both GTA 4 and the original Red Dead Redemption. While the increased scale of each game adds “extra wrinkles” to those working on it, Ricchio thinks the work speaks for itself and makes you feel “like you're in a place.”
With all that in mind, Ricchio says he's overall pleased not to work on GTA 6 because the development is “really difficult”. Still, the former developer finds the excitement surrounding Rockstar's games to be “magical” and “so rewarding.” I guess we'll soon see for ourselves if GTA 6 lives up to all the hype.
