Greedfall 2: The Dying World is not what one would consider a traditional sequel. Even though it is the sequel to the 2019s Greed, it takes place three years before the events of the cult classic RPG. The game also makes some major changes to the combat systems established in its predecessor. Instead of being a straightforward action RPG a la The Witcher 3, Greed 2 is more closely related to Star Wars: VERTEBRA or Dragon Age: Origins. Its combat is still real-time, but it can be paused intermittently mid-battle to allow players to steer their characters around. In addition to all this, Greed 2 Developer Spiders is using an early access model for the game, something the company didn't do with the original Greed.
Even if Greed 2 is intended to be a multi-platform title, it was released in early access exclusively for Windows PC on September 24, 2024. According to the game's Steam page, Spiders decided to take this route because they wanted to gather player feedback and know that it was “on the right track” with the game's progress. Reception to Greed 2 has been mixed so far, but as the developers aim to build on its foundation in future updates, there's good reason to believe it could become a truly special game in due time. Unlike other RPGs, such as the universally acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3but it seems the Spiders are taking a unique approach to Greed 2's early access roadmap, especially when it comes to introducing new regions.

Every GreedFall 2 Companion So Far Explained
GreedFall 2: The Dying World's Early Access currently features five of its companions, each with a distinct personality and background.
Unlike BG3, Greedfall 2 welcomes large new regions while still being early available
Greedfall 2's setting is markedly different from its predecessor
Greed 2 plays out like a sort of reverse version of the original Greed. In the first game in the series, players take on the role of a colonizer who travels to the fictional island of Teer Fradee and must deal with the indigenous people who live there. IN Greed 2on the other hand, players play as a Teer Fradee native who is kidnapped and forced to move to the continent of Gacane, the home of the settlers from Greed. The developers at Spiders intend to make all of Gacane explorable Greed 2which is quite an ambitious goal. However, at the time of writing, only a select few locations are actually available in the game.
Spiders adds a new city to Greedfall 2's Early Access build, something Larian never did with BG3
Players checking out Greed 2 on Steam right now can experience roughly 30% of the content it has to offer. Players can currently explore the regions of Teer Fradee, Thynia, and Uxantis in Greed 2s construction for early assets, and they will be able to visit a large new location called Olima, City of Stars in the near future. Although this city was originally supposed to be added to the game sometime in the fall of 2024, Spiders announced last month that it needed a little more time to release the upcoming content in an acceptable form.
Greed 2 getting brand new regions during its early access state stands in stark contrast to Baldur's Gate 3 and how it was handled. BG3 was originally released in early access on Steam, way back in 2020. But unlike Greed 2no major new cities were added to the game while it was still in beta. The early access version of the Baldur's Gate 3 featured only one of three acts to be included in the final build of the game. BG3s first act only had three regions: the Wilderness, the Underdark, and the Rosymorn Monastary Trail. All other, more significant locations from Acts 2 and 3, such as the shadow-cursed lands and the city of Baldur's Gate itself, were not in Baldur's Gate 3s pre-1.0 builds.
Spiders' approach to Greedfall 2 could be beneficial to the game in the long run
If Greed 2 followed the same path as Baldur's Gate 3Spiders wouldn't get as much feedback from fans about the game's new locations. On top of that, while the company's current approach can do Greedfall 2: The Dying Worlds full release less exciting for existing players, it could improve the RPG's quality in the long run.
