Over 17 years after the release of the original Dead Spaceseries creator Glen Schofield wants to turn his sights back to the world of sci-fi horror and expresses an ambitious desire to continue with another sequel with Dead Space 4. Although he was not involved in the development of the second or third installments in the iconic franchise, Schofield is not giving up hope of possibly returning to Dead Space with a future release.
Considered among the best action horror games of all time, the original Dead Space is loved for its brutal battles, iconic Necromorphs and surreal space environments. Despite impressive critical and commercial performances for the first two entries, Dead Space 3 was widely considered a step down from its predecessors, with many seeing the game as the reason for no more releases from the franchise. With many years now passed after that game's mixed launch, audiences are hoping for a revival of the game Dead Space series with an all-new sequel has been resurrected thanks to fresh comments from the IP's original creators.
Will Dead Space 4 ever happen?
During an interview at the Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok, Glen Schofield was asked about the future Dead Space franchise, which he responded optimistically that he wanted to work on Dead Space 4. He quickly began that he had already spoken to EA about the idea and was immediately met with rejection. But the recent purchase of Electronic Arts has Schofield feeling like the opportunity Dead Space 4 is still on the table, so much so that he is “already calling” and trying to see if there is renewed interest in anyone buying the rights.
Although in 2023 Dead Space remake received overwhelmingly positive reviews, the game's overall sales figures fell well below EA's expectations, leaving the franchise in its current state of limbo. Whether the new owners of the company will have a change of heart from their predecessors remains to be seen, although Schofield shows no signs of giving up his desire to Dead Space 4 a reality.
A crucial obstacle to Glen Schofield's enthusiastic ambitions is the current political controversy surrounding the EA purchase, which could lead to problems for new pitches for Dead Space 4 or other upcoming projects from the company. As it stands, there is currently no official indication that Dead Space series will get more remakes, let alone full sequels, anytime soon.
