Derek's love for gaming came at an early age when his parents first brought home the Nintendo Entertainment System. Since then, countless nights were spent hunting ducks, stomping turtles, exploring far-away planets, and combing through dungeons with a trusty sword and shield. Originally raised exclusively with Nintendo products, Derek's perspective grew to include other platforms ranging from Sony to Microsoft, the PC and more. As his views and opinions grew, so did the desire to connect with other gamers and video game fans. In 2011, his writing adventure began on his personal blog, eventually joining the Game Rant team in 2015. He currently covers everything from features and guides to the latest video game news.
Ghost of Yotei is getting a new update from developer Sucker Punch, which addresses more of the game's remaining issues and flaws. Since its launch on October 2, Ghost of Yotei has received a steady stream of minor updates and hotfixes to help address the game's issues.
The amount of hotfixes and updates that have already rolled out might be a little surprising, given that Ghost of Yotei has been received extremely well by critics and players alike. In fact, Ghost of Yotei has already reached a major sales milestone, passing $2 million in sales just 3 days after the game's initial launch on PlayStation 5. It would be easy enough for Sucker Punch to just sit back and celebrate its success, but instead the studio has continued to work in an effort to continue improving the experience for its player base.
The latest hotfix comes a week after the previous one Ghost of Yotei update and continues the trend of solving somewhat rarer, but no less problematic issues that players have occasionally experienced. Again, several potential crash triggers have been fixed, while a large number of bugs have also been fixed within the game's various missions. The fixes range from major issues like blockers to minor tweaks like NPCs getting stuck in the environment or a bug that prevented Digital Deluxe owners from unlocking the Black Ghost mask.
Another update has also been made of The Kitsune's Fate in Ghost of Yoteione of the last missions in the game. While Sucker Punch previously fixed a potential bug that could lock the mission hard, this update replaces a placeholder asset that was placed along the main road, likely something the studio probably didn't want players to see.
These updates are just the first phase of Sucker Punch's post-launch plans. While the studio hasn't discussed any major plans for a potential story expansion down the road, the studio did tease the return of fan-favorite Legends multiplayer mode for Ghost of Yotei. The mode will be added for free in 2026, recreating the co-op gameplay with 2 stories and 4 survival missions. Players can choose between 4 character classes as they take on massive demonic versions of the Yotei Six.
