How to beat the treasure marulk in Lost Castle 2

Lost Castle 2 is a beat'em up roguelike that puts you in the shoes of a treasure hunter sent out to defeat a terrifying demon. During this journey you will help the locals, complete quests, unlock lots of treasures and fight all kinds of bosses.

One of these bosses is the Treasure Anglerfish, which is tied to the Saltpeter Desert region. Despite its size, this fish is remarkably nimble and can prove difficult for specific builds. Here's how to beat this boss and if his alchemy amulet is worth it.

Unlike many other bosses, Treasure Anglerfish's moveset isn't particularly complicated, as it's mainly just trying to take a bite out of you for most of the fight. While this means you won't be dodging a ton of projectiles like in the Behemoth fight, it doesn't mean this boss is a pushover.

In fact, Treasure Marulk can be quite tricky, as it can cover a large portion of the arena quickly, allowing it to close the gap when it attacks you. This can make avoidance difficult, as you will largely rely on your dodge roll or jump to get away from this boss instead of just running. Understanding the Treasure Anglerfish's attacks and when to dodge is the key to success for this fight, as the large hitbox makes it incredibly easy to consistently damage.

The main part of the Treasure Anglerfish you want to watch during the fight is its mouth. There is a slight delay from when it lunges forward to bite you, then when it actually snaps its jaws together. You want to slip just as the mouth starts to close, preferably by rolling either over or under the fish. Don't let your guard down if you avoid it, as Treasure Anglerfish will often give a second bite within a second or so of the first!

This boss also has a dash attack that sees it swim quickly across the sand towards you in an attempt to bite. Once again, this is all about keeping an eye on the Treasure Marlin's mouth and dodging right when it starts to close its jaws. If you can get behind the fish, this is the perfect spot because it can't hit a dimemaking it easy to take damage while the Treasure Anulfish tries to bite you.

You will largely damage the boss either during or right after its attacks. Staying behind it is key, as this will give you relative safety, while still allowing you to hit the fish. If you're using a ranged weapon like a musket, fire your volleys between the bites when it's stationary before running away when the boss starts chasing you.

The scariest attack involves the treasure marulk diving into the ground and then moving towards your position. It will shrink its size down to just its fin while under the sand and will relentlessly pursue you until it gets close. Once it does, the surrounding ground will shake, and the fish will appear and quickly try to take a bite out of you.

Due to the high speed it comes out of the sand, the best way to not take damage is to get as far away as possible when the ground begins to shake and Treasure Marulk stops moving underground. This signals that it is about to emerge from the sand and cannot continue chasing you.

It will repeat diving underground after this attack, only now it will jump into the air when it emerges. This is much easier to avoid, as you simply don't have to be in the big, scary red circle before the boss lands. As before, it will dive back into the sand and launch another bite attack, with the added catch of snapping its jaws twice at you.

There is a brief moment of rest after this third attack that you will want to take advantage of as the Treasure Anglerfish will not move or attack while it recovers. The boss will then resume its normal attack pattern of chasing you around the arena to bite you. There are no additional gimmicks or mechanics, so focus on just dodging when it's about to bite, and you should be fine.

Once the boss is dead, you'll earn a piece of black iron ore, some loot for your run, Marul's Claw, and you'll unlock the boss's unique armor and weapons for future attempts.
