While many have been worried about how these new cards will affect the game's meta, some ear -eyed players have discovered a very confusing connection between the game's new card, and they try to find out exactly what it means.
Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket's Ultra Beast card has all a lot of musical attacks
First discovered on Reddit by User Poison_soda, each of Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket's new Ultra Beast card has an attack named after a music genre, for some reason.
Pokemon and their features are as follows:
-
Buzzwole – big beat
-
Nihilego – New Wave
-
Guzzlord Ex – Grindcore
-
Celesteela – Moombahton
-
Feremosa – Jump Blues
-
Kartana – Thrash Metal
-
Xurkitree – Electronica
-
Nagsandel – Electro House
-
Stakataka – brass rock
-
Blacephalon – beat punk
This even extends to a Pokémon coming from an upcoming event, with Ultra Necrozma Ex which has a move called Shoegaze when it is released as part of the game's next drip event.
As you can see, many of these features are linked to dollar music genres, which has led to some big brain theories from Pokemon TCG Pocket Community.
Blargen69 suggested that the Name Convention was a “close encounter with the third type of reference”, because “the universal language to communicate with foreign life was music”, and Ultra Beasts are Pokemon's versions of foreigners.
However, foreign links did not stop there, as Myclerical GNOMANCE theoretized that it could “be a reference to Voyager Golden Record.” These discs were placed in two Voyager rhymes and contain a collection of sounds that enclose life on earth. They were designed for all foreign or other extraterrestrial units that can find them.
Another, slightly less foreign-centered theory came from Bobguy117, who pointed out that the new set could be shortened to EDC, just like the Music Festival Electric Daisy Carnival held in Las Vegas every year.
Although we are unlikely that we will ever find out the real reason behind the name conventions, it is fun to speculate, and another really cool Easter egg from Pokemon Trading Card Games Games Fickdesigners.
