Fonos Basin Treasure Exploration Codex Guide

Players can take on some truly confusing quests in the Codex book Throne and Liberty. While a majority of these side quests will describe the places players need to go, places they need to investigate, and people they need to fight to complete a mission, some will just give a vague description or hint of what to do and leave it at that. . Understanding how to see these missions to the end is a tricky thing. One of these missions, called the Fonos Basin Treasurecomes pretty late in the game.

While this area is easy to access soon after starting the game, the story doesn't take players there until the last couple of chapters of the main quest. This means that the area is crawling with powerful enemies that hit hard and can overpower any sub-level character that wanders into their territory. The game even recommends that players should be at their current max level before entering the area, although the mission itself may be unlocked at level 45. So anyone who wants to go on a treasure hunt must be sure that they have reached a level. Once they've done that, they can follow this guide to complete the quest.

How to complete Fonos Basin Treasure

Throne and Liberty - Fonos Basin Treasure

The assignment comes with four goals which players must complete to beat it:

  • Talk to the Treasure Hunter at Fonos Basin
  • Defeat the Orc Shaman and find the Treasure Key
  • Open the Mysterious Chest northeast of Fonos Basin and collect the Collection Code: Fonos Basin's Mysterious Copy of a Map
  • See Collection Codex: Mysterious Treasure Map to obtain treasures

Talk to the treasure hunter

Throne and Liberty - Treasure Hunter

To get things started, talk to the Treasure Hunter, located next to the Fonos Basin Waystone. He can be found standing directly next to Waystone, so players only need to warp there (when activated, of course), and he can be easily found. When you talk to the Treasure Hunter, he will ask you for it look for a treasure in the area by taking on the orcs that inhabit the land.

Defeat The Orc Shaman

Throne and Liberty - Orc Shaman

Although the objective seems to refer to a specific enemy, there are a bunch of Orc Shamans that players can fight for this objective. They will surely have to fight several of them find the treasure key.

Eventually one of the Orc Shamans will arrive release the key after a player defeats them. It will be on the ground for the player to pick up and will not automatically be added to their inventory.

Open The Mysterious Chest

Throne and Liberty - Chest

With the key in the pocket, the player will be pointed to the chest that it opens nearby. It is found among the orc camp, in a small hut that players must climb up to. Be careful of orc enemies wandering around, as they can be a little hard to put on in numbers.

Once you find the chest, interact with it to open it. Much like with the treasure key, the chest will simply drop the map on the ground. Pick up the map in order to progress in the assignment.

Find the treasure

The map itself is just an image, and a confusing one at that. It points to where players can find the treasure. However, not only is it difficult to accurately discern the location as shown by the map, but so can the treasure only found at a specific time of day.

The location is near the Boonstone that players can see on their map, just southwest of the icon. This is an arena of sorts, and there is a staircase leading up to the Boonstone, at the bottom of which is the treasure. When day turns to nightthe tax can be obtained. This is a very short window of time, so try to be there before dusk begins or you risk missing it entirely.
