Destiny 2's Iron Banner Loot controversy got even worse in Revenant

Summary

  • The Iron Banner in Destiny 2 offers exclusive loot but faces criticism for its limited availability.

  • The Chill Clip perk on Tinasha's Mastery is powerful in PvE scenarios and coveted by players.

  • Bungie should allow players to access rank-up rewards all the time to address missed opportunities.

There are many advantages to farming Iron Banner in Destiny 2 for loot, though the activity is arguably very FOMO-centric, as it's only available for a few weeks in each episode, “forcing” Guardians to play a few matches in order not to miss out on their exclusive rewards. This applies to different systems i Destiny 2although Iron Banner may make this even more apparent given that it's a PvP mode with a mixed reputation. In the case of Revenant, Iron Banner introduced a very popular and sought after weapon, combining a great archetype and some great scrolls, only to make it very difficult to obtain. Things took a turn for the worse recently, sparking a debate about what Bungie can do to improve the experience.

It's not unusual for Destiny 2's Iron Banner or other game modes to add hunting weapons at some point, like the Cataphract grenade launcher for Trials of Osiris or the latest Tinasha's Master rocket sidearm for IB. Tinasha's Mastery in particular is still sought after by many players thanks to the popularity of rocket arms as a whole and the fact that this particular gun can roll High-Explosive Ordnance, Air Trigger and Chill Clip to become a powerhouse in PvE. Now that Iron Banners came back, Bungie added a good Chill Clip scroll as a freebie to level up Lord Saladin's reputation, leaving behind a large portion of the game's population.

Destiny 2 finally polishes its weakest subclasses in Episode Heresy

Destiny 2's episode Heresy is already looking promising, as Bungie's latest TWID details nice buffs for the game's weakest subclasses.

Why Destiny 2's Tinasha's mastery sparked an Iron Banner debate

Destiny 2's Chill Clip perk is especially powerful in PvE as it can chill any enemy on the first hit and freeze on the second or third depending on weapon type, making it incredibly strong in a multitude of situations. These include:

  • Empowering Stasis builds or Prismatic builds with Stasis, as Chill Clip uses two Stasis verbs

  • Amazing overload and unstoppable champions in Destiny 2 with ease regardless of the season's selection of anti-champion perks for the artifact

  • Control the battlefield even on non-synergistic builds thanks to the ability to chill and freeze with ease

All of this is good on rocket arms because they are a powerful archetype with good ammo economy, and on top of that, that Kinetic slot in a player's inventory might not have a better weapon to use unless using specific scrolls or Exotics for different cases. As such, Tinasha's Mastery is one of Destiny 2best weapon at the moment, but it's hard to get a decent roll. With last week's Iron Banner, Bungie added Tinasha's Master to the slot 4 reward slot, essentially giving players a free Chill Clip reel. The problem is that new rewards cannot be claimed retroactively if they were taken once, so anyone who had already received a rank 4 reward from a previous iteration of the Iron Banner could not get this scroll.

Destiny 2 should allow players to get ranked rewards all the time

Given that Iron Banner's guaranteed free Chill Clip roll for Tinasha's Mastery was far from a good roll, it's likely that players could have gotten a better one by just turning in Engrams. Still, the problem is that rewards from providers change over time, and you can't go back to get past ones or new ones. As such, Bungie should at least allow players to purchase these scrolls from their respective vendors or from Banshee-44 at the Tower as they change, much like several Destiny 2 good rolls were given away for free after the perk weight controversy.

This wouldn't be too much of an issue, given that sometimes vendor rewards change even within the same week, as is the case with Iron Banner, so giving players a chance to get them regardless would be a good move. If there needs to be a requirement, it could be that players must have reached that specific rank at least once during that season or episode. Destiny 2Episode 3 already makes some good changes, but it remains to be seen if they will include anything for vendor rewards – especially for Iron Banner.
