Food plays a crucial role in Baldur's Gate 3—if players don't eat heavily during a long rest, they won't be able to refresh their health and spell slots when they wake up. As they travel through Faerun, Baldur's Gate 3 players can feast on everything from simple vegetables to hearty stews, roasts and other complete meals. Therefore, the announcement of A party for a tenday, the official Baldur's Gate 3 tie-in cookbook, came as no surprise to fans of the popular video game.
A party for a Tenday was announced along with several others Baldur's Gate 3 books, including a coloring book, a Necromancy of Thay notebook and a prequel novel starring the popular companion Astarion. The cookbook will feature 65 recipes that appear to be divided by region, with sections based around Wilderness Camp, Last Light In, Baldur's Gate Harbor and more. Several recipes have already been confirmed for the book, including the Scotched Owlbear Egg, Bex's Handmade Cookies, and, of course, the Emperor's favorite fiddlehead soup, but there is much more that needs to fill its pages.
Baldur's Gate 3's best quest is unanimously praised by players
One mission in Baldur's Gate 3 stands out as the game's best, with players praising its immersive story, exciting heists, and epic boss.
Aunt Ethel's Syrup Cake
While disguised as a friendly old lady, the curmudgeon Aunt Ethel serves syrup to poor Mayrina, who has come to her for help after losing her husband. Once the player is able to see the fetid wetlands for what they really are, the “cake” is revealed to be completely spoiled – and presumably diluted with Ethel's hag magic, or possibly even poisoned. Hopefully, whatever recipe may be included A party for a Tenday would be the tasty version, rather than the nasty reality.
Dippin' Soup & Potato Chowder
Among the many books that can be found and looted in Baldur's Gate 3 is REALMS SOUPS, found in the Open Hand Temple in Rivington. The book is written by Donnick, a chef whom players meet during the quest “Solve the Open Hand Temple Murders”, and contains two recipes for “Dippin' Soup” and “Potato Chowder”. While the recipes in their current form can technically be recreated, as many fans on sites like Reddit have done, it would be nice to get more detailed versions that include exact measurements rather than Donnick's estimates.
Underdark mushroom dishes
Mushrooms are everywhere in Baldur's Gate 3's Underdark region, from the glowing specimens that light up players' paths to the sentient myconids of the underground colony. Drow companion Minthara Baenre also mentions that mushrooms are often eaten in underground cities such as Menzoberranzan (and are also used by some Drowned to poison their enemies). That would be a shame A party for a Tenday not least included a mushroom recipe to pay homage to the game's iconic Underdark section. A mushroom soup, stew or stir-fry would be a good option, or even a colorful mixed dish with several mushroom types to reference the Myconids and the potential conflict between the Sovereign's Glut and Spaw.
Neogi Claws / Rolls
Described by Volothamp Geddarm as a cross between eels and spiders, the neogi are an evil slave race. The Githyanki, like the companion Lae'zel, hate them almost as much as they hate the Mind Flayers, enough that they will eat neogi flesh even if eating food on the Astral Plane is not required. Baldur's Gate 3 has two neogi-based camp side dishes: Neogi Claws, which are roasted over hot coals and served with dipping sauce, and Neogi Rolls, which resemble actual spring rolls. The cookbook could potentially use seafood to recreate these dishes – perhaps crab legs could act as the claws, or could eel meat be used in the rolls as neogi are said to be similar to them?
Gales Hundur sauce
Gale isn't just the wizard of Waterdeep – he's also a wizard in the kitchen. Considering Gale does most of the cooking for the party, it would only be right to include one of his recipes in the official cookbook. Players who love Gale will learn that one of his specialties is Dog Sauce, a tasty sauce that can apparently be paired with a variety of aquatic dishes, such as quipper fish. I've wanted to know how to make Gale's signature sauce since I first followed the wizard's romantic path, and I hope A party for a Tenday make that dream come true.
Boiled Beholder Eyestalks
One of the most bizarre foods in existence Baldur's Gate 3 is undoubtedly a viewer's boiled eye stalks, an iconic Dungeons and dragons monsters that can be fought multiple times throughout the game (including if you choose to drop one from an Iron Flask looted from the Zhentarim). The item's in-game description tells us nothing about what this dish is supposed to taste like – is it rubbery? Chewy? Tasty? Tasteless? Unfortunately, bystanders aren't real, but the cookbook could potentially feature a real-life version of this unique food item. Perhaps it could include root vegetables as the 'stalks' and eggs, meatballs or even fish eyes as 'eyeballs'.

A party for a Tenday
The official one Baldur's Gate 3 the cookbook takes its name from a recipe found in the kitchen of Lady Jannath's estate, a haunted mansion that players can visit as part of the “Free the Artist” Quest. The feast includes spare ribs or pork neck cooked in a thick beef and vegetable-based sauce served over pasta, along with salad and “very hard, salty, cheese.” Given that the book has the title A party for a tenday, it seems natural that the holiday is presented. Considering how much food it makes, it should definitely be marked as one of the book's “romantic” recipes, designed to be shared with a partner — or perhaps your favorite romance Baldur's Gate 3 companion.
Party themed cocktails
Given that there is an achievement in the Baldur's Gate 3 for a long rest while only drinking alcohol, there must be a cocktail recipe or two in the cookbook. There are plenty of drinks in the game, such as Plum Fizz, Syl-Pashan Sup and the humorously named Baldur's Grape, but why not also offer cocktails inspired by Baldur's Gate 3's beloved companion? There might be a mead drink with lots of herbs and berries for Halsin, something warm and spicy to represent Karlach, or a rich and refined spirit-based drink for Wyll. And, of course, you can't forget to include a Bloody Mary in honor of Astarion; after all, he can't eat any of the other recipes in the book.
