Next planned DLC for Cult of the Lamb will allow players to raise livestock just like in farming games like Stardew Valleybut it also allows the slaughter of livestock, something most of these titles would not dare touch. Cult of the Lamb has been a huge hit, in part due to its adorable imagery set against a dark tale of demonic resurrection, and its Woolhaven DLC should provide a similar mix of sweet and macabre themes.
Cult of the Lambs Woolhaven expansion was first announced in August as part of the Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 livestream event. The mostly animated trailer that accompanied that announcement only featured about 15 seconds of actual gameplay, all introduced in blink-and-you'll-miss-it bursts, and while much of it focused on combat, there was also a brief scene of the Lamb riding through the camp on a yak-like creature.
Cult of the Lamb DLC includes slaughtering livestock
Agriculture has existed in Cult of the Lamb since its early days, giving players an easy way to harvest resources like berries, pumpkins, and beets. Now, more details have emerged from publisher Devolver Digital's Twitter profile, confirming that the furry bovine creatures from the previous snippet will not only be coming to the game alongside snails and crabs in early 2026, but players will be able to build ranch areas in their camps to raise, breed and harvest them. Also, while most farming games would leave it at that, Cult of the Lamb pushes farm-based resource harvesting to the limit by letting players pull out an ax and slaughter them for meat and other items.
There are many ways to collect meat in the roguelike game, but it is one of the more difficult resources to gather without delving into the dungeons. One of the more reliable methods of obtaining meat without leaving camp is sacrifice Cult of the Lambs followers, but the follower meat this method provides can have some negative effects on the sect's loyalty and faith. Therefore, although this new method seems quite similar in nature, it probably will not produce the same negative side effects.
Although their focus is on livestock and not followers, the ranching mechanics appear to be tied to those introduced in the Sins of the Flesh update from early 2024. That update introduced the mating tent as a buildable item, allowing followers to mate and produce offspring, allowing the player to choose its attributes. Breeding will similarly be one of the features available in Woolhaven, but whether the animals will be able to pick up traits similar to Followers is not yet known. And in classical Cult of the Lamb style, there's still a wholesome element, as some followers have been shown snuggling with the smaller critters as they sleep.
