Bloodborne Boss Tier List

Blood bornedespite seemingly, inexplicably being forgotten by both FromSoftware and Sony, it is often considered one of the best games of the previous decade. It's home to some of the best storytelling FromSoftware has ever conjured up, a truly unforgettable and unsettling world, and, of course, a legion of tough-as-nails, white-knuckle combat.

Blood borneThe best bosses exist at the intersection of challenge, lore, and spectacle, offering a strong combination of engaging gameplay, awe, and terror. While most of FromSoftware's games are characterized by the element of surprise, Blood bornes descent into madness and cosmic horror from a seeming default Van Helsing-inspired story provides particularly strong boss variety, its roster populated by werewolf-like beasts, madmen, and incomprehensible, god-like horrors. Really, Blood bornes executive lineup is among FromSoftware's most iconic.

The following tier list excludes Chalice Dungeon bosses, focusing only on those from the main story and

DLC.

The PS5 Pro may have just given a Bloodborne Remake its strongest weapon yet

As Sony plows ahead with the PS5 Pro, it should take the opportunity to finally give Bloodborne the long-awaited upgrade it deserves.

S-Tier Bosses in Bloodborne

  • Ludwig the damned
  • Gehrman, the first hunter
  • Lady Maria of the Astral Clock Tower
  • Orphan from Kos
  • The presence of the moon

Mount Rushmore of Blood borne bosses are characterized by a few key factors, including aesthetics, the importance of lore, and how well each encounter utilizes the game's combat mechanics. Take Ludwig the Cursed, for example: this boss's grotesque, abusive design is FromSoftware at its most inspired, and his viciousness, aggressiveness, and wide range of attacks make him an easy choice for Blood bornemost terrifying boss. There's also his connection to the game's core story, which adds a layer of significance that makes his fight more than just a spectacle.

The same can be said for the likes of Lady Maria and Orphan of Kos. These managers are indissoluble parts of Blood bornes story, and they test the player's mettle with new and unexpected attack patterns. In the case of Orphan of Kos, which is without a doubt Blood bornes toughest boss, players will need to utilize the full spectrum of their abilities and experience with the game's mechanics to achieve victory. But like any good video game boss, it never feels unfair despite its crushing difficulty.

Lady Maria, the guilt-ridden gatekeeper of Fishing Hamlet, provides another emotionally resonant showdown that supports her raw power. A seasoned hunter herself, she forces the player to increase their aggressiveness and intensity more than ever before. Her fatal grace may have inspired the likes of Fire Ring's Malenia – a good or terrible thing, depending on who is asked.

Gehrman and the Moon Presence is narratively important and dramatically gripping, but not particularly challenging. By the time the player reaches these two final, crucial bosses, they will likely be powerful and experienced enough to beat them in just a few tries, and while this would usually earn a boss a spot in a lower tier, their relative ease actually helps. the tempo of the game, when they differ Blood bornes nightmarish narrative, offering spectacle rather than frustration. Plus, while their moves are easy to counter, they're still fun to dance with—something that can't be said for the game's lower-quality boss fights.

A-Tier Bosses in Bloodborne

  • Martyr Logarius
  • Father Gascoigne
  • Substitute Amelia
  • Shadow of Yharnam
  • Ebrietas, daughter of Cosmos
  • Mergo's Wet Nurse

Bosses in this tier are still great – they'd basically be considered S-Tier in 90% of other games – but they're slightly outdone by the game's more masterfully crafted encounters. The likes of Father Gascoigne, Vicar Amelia and Martyr Logarius help paint a fuller picture of Blood bornes bleak and heartbreaking world, with Gascoigne and Amelia's transformations into beasts that characterize the perverse world of Yharnam, so removed from the pillars of humanity. Logarius, on the other hand, represents the brutal and psychopathic conflict with the Vilebloods, his boss fight showing another dimension of Yharnam's dark underbelly.

Mergo's Wet Nurse and Shadow of Yharnam are two of them Blood bornes most mechanically unique boss meetings. The former hurls illusions and complex, multi-faceted attacks at the player, while the latter is a three-man team fight that encourages different strategies depending on build and playstyle. Conversely, Ebrietas is a very simple, easy fight, but the heartbreaking details of her story, along with her unforgettably grotesque appearance, make her simply unforgettable.

The next FromSoftware game could breathe new life into an underutilized character creation mechanic

FromSoftware's RPGs have always included a typical genre feature, and the studio might be able to duplicate it in interesting ways.

B-Tier Bosses in Bloodborne

  • The church animal
  • Blood hungry beast
  • Amygdala
  • Living failures
  • Laurence, first vicar
  • Darkbeast Paarl

Further down the list are bosses that are either mechanically mediocre or display the defining characteristic of the game's worst boss fights: gimmicks. Amygdala and Living Failures fall into the latter category, as their battles, while visually interesting, don't get the most bang for their buck Blood bornes fast and aggressive combat. They can be a nice change of pace, but they don't play to the game's mechanical strengths.

Darkbeast Paarl and Blood-Starved Beast are guilty of being a little too challenging than they're worth: their attacks will hit hard and fast, but they're not very interesting or fun to counter. Paarl can be beaten by simply sticking to the back, and the Blood-Starved Beast can be cheesed off with fire and some well-timed shots (which is admittedly quite satisfying), which makes them feel a little looser from a design perspective, especially compared to bosses in the higher levels.

Then there's Cleric Beast and Laurence, the First Vicar. Laurence's encounter benefits from its lore importance, but the fact that it's essentially just a reskin of Cleric Beast with some extra AOE moves cheapens it a bit. The Cleric Beast himself, as the first boss most players will encounter, is already fairly mechanically simplistic, cementing both of these bosses as good, but not great.

C-Tier Bosses in Bloodborne

  • Micolash, host of the nightmare
  • Rome the empty spider
  • The Witch of Hemwick
  • The reborn
  • Heavenly messenger

Finally, the lowest level of Blood borne boss fights are characterized by the dreaded gimmicks that appeared in the previous level. Micolash and The Witch of Hemwick are both strong contenders for worst Blood borne boss fights, both of which lack the style and flair to make up for their tedium. Celestial Emissary, Rom, and The One Reborn are much more interesting in terms of visual design, spectacle, and lore, but they also fail to encourage deeper engagement or experimentation with the game's mechanics, as their battles focus on clearing out hordes of fodder enemies before whaling on a great, impotent mass.
